The Triangle
Is there a way to tell if a J serial had Black Iridium vs Ruby lenses? I know OXM says they Black Iridium was a later release but any idea where in the serial numbers this change was made? Like a J14XXXX would have been a what. My gut says BI but curious if anyone knows more.

I have J serial 064xxx the person I bought them from, despite the box stating they are BI (and the box serial matches the frame serial), was sold with ruby lenses. So, potentially they had more of the ruby lenses than they had boxes with ruby labels.so ended up putting them in the BI box. So the changeover could have been around then.

Or.maybe that's just plain wrong

The J serial did have ruby and black. Obviously, the ruby was more like fire than the X-serial ruby.

Have you asked Dann Thoms or James Jannard: one, you'd almost definitely get a response from, but it's worth trying just because!

More confused than ever after this one that Kyle had for sale.

My J serial but wondering if it’s possible these were the original lenses. My serial is in the 100k range.

It's generally accepted that the J's started off as ruby then changed to BI at some point, however, this pair would suggest this was not the case. Unless someone found a box with no serial written on it just wrote the serial of this pair on it.

the X-metal and Black Iridium Juliet always started with J serials. They were one of the first Juliets released. Later on the Ruby Juliet was released and had X serialed frames. The Ruby Juliet was never meant to be a mainstay in the lineup. Towards the end of its lifecycle the Ruby Juliet used J serial frames meant for Black Iridium lenses since it was most cost effective than serialing more X serial frames. They came with mismatched boxes so it is difficult to track them,

As for telling if yours came as Black or Ruby Iridium originally? You really can’t though I don’t remember if these last pairs of the first wave of the first Ruby Juliet run had hand serialed boxes like other X-metals. With customization being prevalent it’s impossible to tell.
