Oakley mismatched box and glasses

Hello all new to the forum. I have a very old pair of oakley penny. I was doing some research to see what they would be worth. I emailed oakley and they verified the serial number was the penny. I have the metal vault and the box and the glasses. I then realized that the number on the box isnt the same as the number on the temple that i didnt even know was there until oakley customer service informed me. My son purchased these for me from a ski lodge that he worked at and sold oakleys. The number on the box is also PB but obviously with a different number. They are in excellent condition. My questions are how much of an issue is it to sell them with the unmatched box and the approximate value. Do you think they could have been mixed up at the point of sale? Who knew the box would be so important.

Not really much of an issue at all! X metals are always wanted by us collectors! Some people like to collect “full sets” and it is always an added bonus but wouldn’t worry too much!

Thanks for the info Macsuk, i attached a couple photos. There arent any scratches on the lenses that i can see. If i remember i think my son gave me the vault later. It has the extra nose pieces in the box

A very very nice pair mate, I have a pair myself PV Serial, I’ll upload some photos! As I read your post and understood they were a gift, if they have a sentimental value to you money can never replicate that. Just something to bear in mind before selling!

Yes i get the sentimental value but as i am in my 70’s now, and things arent as easy as they used to be, i have my son’s approval to go ahead with my decision.so i may sell them down the road if they bring a decent dollar. I did a little research and they seemed to be worth a good bit but i just wasnt sure with the mismatched box and all. I do appreciate your input.

Of course completely down to you, it was just a note that’s all! Yes they are definitely worth some good money & especially being in great condition is an added bonus as it is becoming harder to find pairs in good condition. Oakley is on fire right now for the old X metals, check places like sold listings on eBay and this will also help you find where to price them, I would say to post them on the forum first as there’s a load of great guys here who love to collect.
