Hi,
If a Penny spring hinge is opening up excessively (one stem on a PI frame I have is flexing 45 degrees) is it the spring/ sleeve that’s playing up or the Collette?

I recently tuned the frame up & I’ve only just noticed it upon wearing them this issue.

TIA

It's the copper plunger.they get deformed when the arm gets forced open too much.
When I bought the Frame the one orbital opening was bigger than the other side. As if the stem had been forced upwards. The seller fixed this and on the proviso that the casting hadn’t been compromised (and the difficulty in obtaining Penny frame) for reasonable money I bought the frame. I further renegotiated the frame price as I had to tune it.

Are you meaning the collet bit where the spring goes?

I know I can get them off Ebay.

This piece here?:

Bronze material according to Ad. With adding the Pb to the Cu maybe it will be better?🤔

Just pissed I’ve got to put more money into occasional wear sunnies…..😫

Especially as I’ve tuned up a couple of Penny frames, rebuilt them & not had an issue. Got to be the guy who I bought them off……🥴

That part's gonna need some filing and finishing....it's casted..... Has anybody used these from this guy before?

I’ve just put a request into alpha omega (they do tune up’s in the UK amongst other Oakley repairs)

I bought an Ichiro off a guy who had them tune up the coupler and their work (where a tune up is concerned) was pretty good tbf.

P*ssed if I have to buy parts & do all that stuff myself. Trouble is for me, It’s either right or wrong, Nothing inbetween……

I’ve just took this frame apart and the cylinder looks ok. The fact that it was relatively straightaway to reinsert arm & screw tells me that the spring is maybe failing.

To that end I’ve ordered both the cylinder & the spring. Hopefully £60🥴 should hopefully have it working as nature intended………🤞🏻🙏

Replacement Spring Hinge from Ebay received & fitted today. No fix unfortunately……. 😡

Wearable, But for the most part a butchered frame. Whatever the previous owner did, It was certainly “done”

£50 down the drain……
