What Oakleys Are You Wearing Today??

And releasing all colors for all frames would just increase how much product ends up on clearance at the Vault, cutting into profit margin
but at the time, no one within Oakley can determine which products will end up on clearance...

Oakley should just have one color pallet, and have each color available across the different types of lenses.....

I think it would be better for business than to screw one type of lens that is not available in a certain color.....

I'm 100% positive that Oakley is STILL MAKING PROFIT even selling items on clearance....

for Oakley to lose any substantial amount of money, it would take much more than producing more colored lenses and having to sell the unsold lenses on clearance....

Yeah - I didn't say clearance was at no profit, just a smaller profit margin. From what I've seen of clearance prices, a lot smaller margin.

But it's more than losing profit from clearance prices. There's also manufacturing capacity. If you increase the quantity and/or variety of products that you manufacture, you either need to increase your manufacturing capacity or deal with longer lead times. Longer lead times turn into stock problems with popular items. Increased manufacturing capacity has the initial investment cost and then a higher overall operating cost. If the additional products created by the increased capacity don't maintain the same overall profit margin, the return on investment period for increasing the capacity takes much longer and could even exceed the depreciation of the equipment. It's not like it couldn't be done; I'm just saying it's not as good of a business case.

I mean, look at their stocks of replacement lenses now. There's always a number that are backordered, especially for older frames (where they've already reduced the available color selection). Why don't they just make enough to keep things in stock? Their existing manufacturing capacity is more allocated towards the current, popular models and there isn't enough left over. Nor is there a good business case to increase the capacity just to address those shortfalls.

Anyway... what are y'all wearing today?:focus:
