What Really Grinds Your Gears?

I introduced some family members to the prophetic Idiocracy yesterday.

The way competency & literacy is devolving is very much inline with the plot of that film.

People who just sit in their vehicle reading their phone after they are done pumping fuel.

Today it was a bad one, the pump ahead of this person was open, but I could not get to it, so I just came up behind with my brights on.

They moved, but then gave me the swamp-face as they circled back to leave.

Also, why do people not pull through to the next pump, instead of using the first one they come to?
unless perhaps they had been there so long that the person at the pump ahead of them had fueled & gone

It is also a lot where there are huge arrows on the pavement showing a one-way entrance, but the entitled come up the wrong way at high speeds.

Shoddy workmanship

every bit of the flooring this restroom is mushy, can feel it sinking under your feet

the topper, they did not even bother to remove the air vent, you can see it through the crack

Start with the bad existing conditions, add the cheap material, mix in some shoddy workmanship, spritz a bit of “can’t see it from my house” on top and tadahhh!! Perfect 🤮. Also didn’t care to remove the rubber baseboard before installing the floor. I wouldn’t pay the a$$hole if they did that under my umbrella until they redid it all from scratch. That’s the crap that gives he commercial field a bad rap.

This is a building that was once owned by the family of a high-school classmate of mine.
They ran a pizza shop there for decades.

The son, my classmate, figuratively ran it into the ground. It was a shadow of what it was, & they finally sold it to another family.

The reason I am telling this?
because it is their house, LOL!

They live upstairs.

The windows are so old you can see the distortion in the glass.

For a long time the upstairs was not in use, the family lived elsewhere & came in to open the restaurant in the morning.

The new owners are living up there.

Something that grinds my gears a little, but I cannot tell the person who recommended to try them again that I think their pizza is just middle-of-the-road quality.

It kind of shocks me at how people will rave about how a place is so great or Awesome & when you go out of your way to try it, you are just wondering WHY?!

The sourdough bread pizza from Seven-Eleven, with an overload of Pepperoni, that is actually better than this pizza & costs about half as much.

Taste is subjective. There are folks who have this same debate about who has the best sub in Jersey. For our family the answer to that question is clear. Whitehouse Subs in Atlantic City.

I’ve seen some people lose their minds over other places. After trying them I asked myself How? To me they weren’t in the same league. Bottom line is, someone is right and others are wrong.

Once you remove the subjective aspect there are differences in quality and preparation. A fast food burger is not filet mignon. Not every person who calls themselves Dr. is one. Just like every Oakley owner is not a collector.

Only an intelligent person can tell them apart.
