🦘X-Metal Pricing - Relative Values

I did not read all the comments, but let me say this; I don't look forward to selling something on the forum, only to have some idiot pointing me to this stupid list to criticize my pricing.

There shouldn't be a list. I will price my stuff however I like. I will also buy stuff for whatever price I think is fair.

I feel a few members on this forum have an agenda to drive prices down, low balling, making fun of sellers and their items, giving ridiculous valuations, etc. This list will only make it worse. Much worse. All you are doing is driving the traffic to ebay, where sellers can price their items as they like and sell stuff without being harassed.

Also, prices are not static, they fluctuate with the seasons and availability.

Even if the op had good intentions, I don't think this list is needed.

The polished Carbon really is the most unique of all the ichiros so conventional wisdom would deem that the highest value pair of them all. Sadly the valuation of the ichiro is counterintuitive.

When a person will foolishly pay $1500-$1600 for the carbon/blue, market idiocy wins.

Once upon a time someone probably told another that the Carbon/blue ichiro is the rarest (true it's the least produced), therefore it should be 1.5X the value of the next highest valued Ichiro. Same person probably spread lies about the "MJ" R1. The "MJ" R1 is nothing more than a first release 4-serial R1. I don't care about the frivolous distinctions such as the square stems and slightly different shaped OEM lenses. It looks like an X metal R1.....that's it!

Furthermore, there is nothing "MJ" about it sans the red smooth ear socks (again not a care of mine). The original boxes didn't even have a pic of MJ or anything differentiating it from a "regular" R1.

Atleast the Jordan Mars lives up to its distinctiveness.

So in your opinion, the polished carbon ichiro should be worth more than the carbon/blue?

An R1 Jordan has the same value as a regular R1?

And a Mars Jordan should be worth more than R1 Jordan?

So what's the intent of stating this? It's a loaded comment. You either make the person feel like garbage through glorious boasting or you're just making yourself glorified by casually leaking this info (no one cares) to the community.

Either way, a jerk move.

He made a comment relevant to the conversation. Xmetalbeast just said he didnt think its worth $10 for one. Than someone else said it's worth $100 now, and stated that it probably cost them "pennies to make". The fact that vaults were selling them off for $2 reiterated the notion that they cost "pennies to make". Completely relevant and NOT a "jerk move", nor did it steer down either one of the two path you tried to pre-direct it down.

Tossing around words like "foolish" and "idiocy" only weakens your argument.

Logically, I agree that the polished carbon Ichiro could be the most expensive as it is the most unique. That's why I bought that one first.

The fact though is that that model is more readily available than some of the others so isn't as expensive. I'm surprised it's gone as cheap as it has but mine isn't going anywhere so the nominal loss I would incur on selling it doesn't bother me.

Equally, the carbon/blue is definitively the least readily available. In comparison to the 6th, it is relatively easily cloned but some collectors will set sufficient store in originality only to want the real thing. And those people are ready to pay when one does become available.

Mine was a private deal between me and a collector here, following a speculative enquiry given what else they were selling. I didn't pay $1500-1600 but it wasn't hugely far away either. Did I feel foolish or idiotic for paying what I did? No, I got a rare, desirable item for a price I was willing, and entirely able, to pay. And the seller was happy. What more do you want from a deal than that?

It is my opinion that's its idiotic/foolish to pay that exorbitant amount for something that is easily cloned for a fraction of the cost.

If you feel it weakens my argument because it somehow includes you (a buyer) in that category so be it. I'm not going to sugar coat it for the sake of preserving your feelings. Not big deal on my part to be PC. I'll call things out as I see fit.

And in my opinion, the carbon/blue ichiro is worth for all intents and purposes say $800 (a nice median value for ichiros). So it's in my opinion that a person willing to pay $1300 to $1600 for a real set is simply paying the extra $500 - $800 for the serial etched on the ear stem and the barcode label on the box.

Yeah I'll call that foolish all day. But hey to each their own.

If you comprehended my post on all those pieces, then the answer to your question should be clear.

You're still missing the point about the "MJ" R1. You just don't get it.

Perhaps I perceived that the wrong way when I read it. I've just gotten fed up with the humble boasting that I've seen over time on this board.

So I'll retract my insinuation of the "jerk move" comment

Brother, this is obviously a joke but considering who the joke is rendered on, it's wrong. And what the heck is the deal with the "My Name is Fred" tag?

Are you a believer? You should check your heart for posting something like this. If you're not a believer, I hope you do find Jesus.
