X metals are metal, not plastic.

I love a single malt. I love it a bit too much, so only drink it on special occasions. Birthdays, Christmas day, any day with day in its name, etc.
Balvenie Double Wood is a favourite, and not too expensive.
I actually just mostly drink beer these days.

Fair point…well made 🪖👍

I’m mostly a bourbon guy these days…Blanton’s being my personal favorite.

Up until about 5-10 years ago I was almost solely a Scotch drinker. Glenmorangie being my “then” favorite. With the most impressive bottle I’ve tried being Signet…but Lasanta was my standard.

That's an expensive hangover! 😁

That's an expensive hangover! 😁

By my standard issue “Stuffed Shirt” attitude you can probably tell I’m a devout moderate drinker. Too many years in uniform has ruined me for ever being a real, solid, end up under the table drunk 🪖👍

….mores the pity. Kinda looks like it could be fun…till the next morning 😏

I haven't been really drunk for years. I used to spend weekends up in the mountains with friends, and i could polish off a bottle sitting by a campfire. I never really felt too bad the next day as long as i drank my whisky with a splash of water. Preferably water from the same river that fed the distillery.

Dark plasma anodized not cerakote. You can still feel that metal texture. I think my problem with painting is the texture, i can feel the paint rather than the metal itself.

Just my opinion.
X metals are industrial. They are machined from titanium, a difficult metal to work with.
The frames should pay homage to this, and not be changed.
If you change the colour, you walk away from this ethos.
What do you think?

I think making this kind of blanket statement on the Oakley Forum parallels to going onto a Harley Davidson forum and saying that all Harleys should be kept the way they left the dealership. Most of the Harley owners I know start the customizing process at the dealer, before the bike registers mile one.

Of course I like to see X-Metals in good condition, with their original lenses, box, and accessories, but that is becoming more and more rare each year since production was terminated. To the OP, what will you do when the lenses in one of your X-Metals delaminate, or the earsocks or nosebombs of one of your X-Metals turn into a gelatinous mess? Whatever you do, they will no longer be original... 😱

I don't think anyone on the forum seeks out mint, complete X-Metals for immediate customization. As a matter of fact, some forum members have offered up pristine X-Metals for sale or trade for the same pair in lesser condition, when customizing was the ultimate goal.

When you see a refinished X-Metal on this forum, it is likely because it was in need of TLC, and probably had unsightly surface damage (which you mentioned it difficult to work with).

Finally, Oakley did not sell all of their X-Metals in raw finish; they experimented with many different frame finishes, including finishes that don't feel like metal. My OEM 24K X-Squared does not feel like metal to me. Some expert on here can probably explain what he "24K" finish is, but I'm pretty sure it's not real raw gold
