Doesn't really tell you much anything relevant but here are some records of Oakley trademarking the names badman and madman. I believe the image at the top is supposed to denote the actual font used in the trademark, which in this case is pretty straightforward, but maybe that's a generic placeholder font, IDK...

BADMAN Trademark Application of Oakley, Inc. - Serial Number 86033956 :: Justia Trademarks

very interesting indeed

Of course in some shape or form but never like the originals. Oakley wouldn't leave X-Metal money on the table.

That's been beaten to death already on this thread and on others. Yes, x-metals are gone for good and yes, the new things coming out are not actually x-metals. The only remaining question is whether or not Oakley is going to try to call them x-metals or something else.

But otherwise the magnesium-based madman and badman are coming out next year, at least one of them most likely in Feb. A real picture of the madman briefly leaked out already but was removed for legal reasons. It's real.

I haven't seen the supposed leaked photo myself, but based on others descriptions it sounds like Oakley has taken the least popular X-Metal style (Mars) and decided to update them. This if true makes little sense to me. The Juliets, Original Romeos, or X-Squared's would have been the much safer bet in terms of drumming of sales and garnering attention outside of hardcore Oakley fans. It makes me wonder if more popular designs aren't already in the pipeline and that Oakley is leading with what it perceives as it's weakest entry to test the market before unleashing what would likely be considered guaranteed sellers in the sequels to Juliets/Romeos/X-Squared's.

With that said, is their anything preventing Oakley from re-using the old styles only slightly modified with the new materials? I understand that they wouldn't be as indestructible, but in theory, could they simply use a cheaper material and replicate the same designs or would the new materials be unable to hold up to the manufacturing process? I see no reason why a only slightly modified Juliet/Romeo design couldn't/wouldn't be brought back with new and unique paint patterns and colorways. The designs would be just different enough to separate the lines, but would still feel like a natural progression of where X-Metal has been and where the future lies.

The badman is supposed to have a more Juliet-like lens shape and less extreme styling than the madman. If true, then they went both ways - took the most extreme x-metal design and made it more extreme, and took the most popular x-metal design and updated it to something with more modern appeal. Maybe. Haven't seen the badman yet.

But I've been wondering - those new metal shirts? The one with all the frames forming "x"es on its back? They don't look like the original x-metals. Maybe design art for the new ones? They're not all the same, though...
