The reports from people who actually know him (read: not ESPN) were always that he was looking for a short term contract so that he could sign another deal, similar to what Lebron has done. Obviously with a true max deal (years and $$$) he'd make more. But, the final year or two is often player/team options and if you are past your prime then you aren't gonna get jack. Here's a graphic showing just how much money you lose playing in Cali vs Texas, with accurate numbers from people who understand the cap a hell of a lot better than I do-

We all know he will save money in 4 years with no state tax. His 5th year with the Clips was $28 mil. His 5th year right now with the Mavs is $0. Guys are wanting some of that money in the next year with the new CBA and the Salary cap goes up.
Doesn't mean every player is going to get a raise. It's not like Minimum wadge!! Ha HA!! What I am saying is he is taking a risk. Big guys break down. Ask Houston and D. Howard. Not the same player he was 4 years ago.
He left for 2 main reasons. Ego and Ego!! He wants to be the cornerstone player of the team he is on. With the Clips he is 3rd in line for that behind Blake and CP3. The new CBA comes sooner than 4 years. Plus like I said before that 5th year was guaranteed with the Clippers it is not with the Mavs. We all know the Clippers team is better than what the Mavs have. I know he is from Texas that was part of it as well. But Ego is what drove him to leave. Hope it works out for him, I really do.
I like him as a player and person. Seems pretty real. He will become an All Star with the Mavs. He wanted that too. Pretty hard to make the All Star team with the 2 guys on the Clips. They will get named before Jordan would.
Lebron is taking a 2 year deal, I think. He will get Maxed no matter what.

They were saying on the radio that the Spurs have moved up from #4 or #5 (I don't remember) to #2 on the list of best odds to win the next championship. Behind the Cavs...

I would agree with that. They will be very tough next year. May be a nice farewell tour for Duncan and Ginobili.
It would be nice to see Timmy get one more ring than Kobe. I would love that!!!

hahaha! Me too! Kobe does so much to mimic Jordan, I get sick of seeing it. Only thing I liked about Kobe was his shoes, Lebron shoes are crap.
