I was hoping to find one on a guy with a mullet, but, alas, no dice...

This. Even if I think they're far from casual, if the pair fits you best that's really all that matters. I personally find the Jawbone ugly, but it fits me too well that it's my go-to pair.

Wear'em, I wear mine quite frequently casually due to their coverage. But I also wear my jawbones casually too as well as for mountain biking. I feel that if I like them then I'm wearing regardless of others think (especially wayfarers).
