Hello, I would like to share my unfortunate experience, which unexpectedly led me to embark on a custom project related to EJ.

It all started when I came across a rather rare pair of EJ FMJ Electric Mustard SKU: 04-305 in excellent condition at a local marketplace, except for some paint wear near the nose area due to prolonged use and a worn-off Oakley logo. This lucky find cost me only $50 (As you will soon find out, the saying "The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away" could not be more fitting for my situation.)

However, the glasses came with unattractive prescription lenses, so I made the mistake of attempting to install third-party lenses without properly fitting them to the frame beforehand. As a result, I damaged the coating on the orbitals, causing it to peel off. I am attaching photos below to illustrate the damage.

This was my initial idea regarding the lenses. Those very lenses, which I attempted to install, ultimately led to the unfortunate destruction of this beautiful orange frame.

I have always wanted to own a pair of silver EJ, whether from the KITH collaboration or the classic light silver FMJ models. That’s why I decided to order Jade lenses from Linegear and repaint this frame in silver.
I plan to use Montana Black Silverchrome spray paint combined with a matte protective lacquer, also from Montana. I started the process by completely removing the FMJ coating from the orbitals to ensure a smooth surface for painting. However, I decided to keep the FMJ coating on the arms since there was no damage or difference in paint thickness.
Interestingly, you can see what the base frame of FMJ models looks like—it has a pleasant sea-pebble color, somewhat reminiscent of the EJ x Satisfy collaboration. Additionally, I discovered that the FMJ paint actually contains a thin layer of metal, although when it’s on the glasses, there’s no noticeable metallic feel or cool touch. I initially doubted it was real metal and assumed it was just another Oakley marketing gimmick.

I would appreciate your thoughts and advice on the paint and painting process. Which protective lacquer would be better to use—matte or glossy?

These are the shattered remnants of former greatness. Damn, guys, I am truly devastated that I ruined such a rare piece due to my impatience and poor judgment by using low-quality lenses. Take good care of your precious ones.

By the way, the base color of the FMJ is quite interesting (something similar to EJ Smoke), and when combined with the arms from the Electric Mustard, it already looks like a kind of custom piece. What do you think?

tBH, it looks good as-is. What lenses are these? Linegear Red Mirror?

No, these are not Linegear lenses; they are some mid-quality Chinese lenses, but they do offer sharp image clarity and accurate color reproduction. They are polarized and have an anti-reflective coating, though they are not as thick as the original ones. I have ordered Linegear Jade lenses for this project, but I have not received them yet. I believe the quality of Linegear lenses is significantly higher than that of the Chinese ones.

Since I was fortunate enough to win the auction for the Oakley EJ FMJ 9mm, which I had been searching for a long time, I decided not to repaint them in silver but instead to restore the original FMJ Electric Mustard color, which had been damaged. I applied a base primer layer using Montana Black Juice spray paint, then coated it with Metallics Warpaints Fanatic Greedy Gold, and finally sealed everything with a thick layer of glossy lacquer from Montana. The color match is approximately 95% accurate, but since I don’t have much experience with painting, the lacquer did not settle perfectly in all areas, resulting in minor imperfections that are hardly noticeable from a one-meter distance but still exist. I also installed new lenses—silver, of course—since my original project with the "Sicilian Orange" lenses was unsuccessful and ultimately led to this entire repainting process. Below are a few photos for reference; the paint has not yet fully cured, so I believe they should be left in the sun for a few more days. In person, I think they look even better than in the photos.

Thank you, I have seen this listing before, but these are orbitals for the first generation, whereas I have the New Eye Jacket.
