Hi guys, are the half jacket's soon to be discontinued? I'm about to buy a pair and most places have 'sold out' of their stock. Now, in most cases like this it means a soon to be discontinued item!

Last thing I want to do is splash out £177 and then something better to come out

Check Ebay. 177 quid for a mediocre pair like that is maddening
Thanks mate. I can pick up a pair for around £80, but the £177 is for a custom pair with blue Prizm lenses. Is that still too much for this pair?

Also, why "mediocre"? I was also looking at the Flacks, but they might be too big for my skinny face 😄

Which "blue prism lenses" do you speak of?

Deep Water Prizm?

If so, there is a guy here who sells them for like $25 each (would likely cost more for you bc of shipping)

Here we go dude. This is what I *was* going to go for. But last thing I want to do is overpay for something.

He’s saying mediocre because these frames are nothing special and almost $200 is ridiculous.

Check the deals section. There is a fast jacket on eBay with full carry array case multiple lenses BNIB for $59. I got one myself and it’s great. Same style, more wrapped, better protection from UV.
If you need maximum protection from UV, I would look at frames other than Holbrook and HJ. Holbrook especially because depending on sun direction you’ll get a lot of light leakage around the frame. And same depending on how the HJ wraps and sits on your face. They sit to far from my eyes on me personally.

Thanks Rhymes for the eBay suggestion and tips regarding other frames. Alas, I'm all the way over the pond in the UK. But I'll check eBay UK on the weekend for some deals.

Also, I forgot to mention that my good lady gets 20% off at Oakley so that would take the Half Jacket to around £135ish. I will also check out the fast jacket. I can't say Ive seen them anywhere here though.

Guys, I finally managed to visit an Oakley shop today.

Well, you all were correct - the Flak 2.0’s are much better than the Half Jackets. I tried both on and the Flaks fit much better. The only issue is they don’t give as much full cover as my current Minute gen 2 wrap arounds. A lot of light seeps in from the bottom and sides. Also, they cost around £200 with the Prizm Polarised lens. But I might get 20% discount so possibly £160. Good deal?

I also looked at the Flak Betas and Flak Draft. I have to say, the Flak Drafts were better than the Flak 2.0. What’s the main difference? They are a lot more in price though.

And as I was in the store, I looked for some slightly smarter sunnys for when I’m not surfing. I looked at the Slivers.

Can’t go wrong with Flak 2.0s. Nice all around frame. Still prefer the Flak Jacket to them though. Flak Draft has more coverage with a wider lens. Don’t know about the beta.

You can get a frame around $45 on eBay, and lenses from the OF at $25 for both the Flak Draft and the Flak 2.0

I love how Flak Draft sits on my face, and the wrap. The difference is millimeters, but I do not see the edge of the lens at all with Draft. Flack (both 1.0 and 2.0) I can see the bottom edges a bit, but it's not distracting if I go with the XLJ/XL lenses.

The main selling point for Draft is the button to pop out the lens. The quick release button for lens swap seems like an Achilles' heel though. I've seen reports of it getting loose. It's also yet another frame with its own lenses. I'd stick with Flak Jacket or Flak 2.0 as they've been around for years, and the lenses are available. If you're like me, and you plan to have 2-3 lenses for a frame like these, investing in a frame that Oakley has supported for many years is the savvy play.

I also love Slivers. The Holbrook hook stems do not sit well on my head, so the straight stems of Sliver solve that. Holbrook Metal or Mix also have straight stems though. Slivers aren't pricey, and at an Oakley Store especially, there are a multitude of colour and lens options. Take note that the lenses in Slivers can be swapped as well. If you're looking for a casual look with a bit of a sporty edge, you might be interested in Jupiter Squared. That's my favourite frame of all time, but is getting hard to find. The Holston frame introduced in 2018 I believe, is supposed to be inspired by Jupiter Squared, but it's very toned down and is much more of a casual look with no rubber on the stems.
