I’m ready to purchase my first X-Metal sunglasses, but I’m looking for expertise from you all. I’ve been lurking for two months and here’s what I’ve learned:
  • Penny (good for small faces)
    • One user wrote, “Will fit nicely for head size from 49~53. Because of PENNY's spring hinge structure, it will also fit up to about 55 head size.”
  • Juliet (good for medium / large faces)
    • One user wrote, “Usually fits from 52cm to even 58cm, but only head size between 53~55cm will fit very comfortable. 58cm for JULIET appears be a little tight (even using the "15" sized temple shocks) and will cause too much tension on the nose-flex joint
  • XX / Romeo (good for large faces)
  • I can purchase nose pieces and temple shocks for fitting needs
My head circumference is 60 cm (measured from the back of head, slightly above ears, slightly above eyebrows), which I think is on the larger side? I’m currently using Warber Parker Perkins M sunglasses with a frame width of 134 mm. When wearing the sunglasses, the temple flares a little and squeezes my head (does not cause headaches because the flare is minimal).

I’m leaning towards the Penny as my first option and Juliet as my second option. While one user wrote the Penny fits a head size from 49~53 cm, I think it should work because the frame width is 136 mm, which is bigger than the Warby Parker sunglasses I’m currently sporting.

Thoughts? Any expertise / information is appreciated!

PS. I’m getting into the game too late. I’m local to the DMV (DC, Maryland, Virginia) area - can anyone recommend a store I can visit to try these on? If not, is anyone local and open to letting a random, newbie, try theirs on? 🙏 😅

Start with the Juliets. There's more Juliets than other X-metals so it's the cheapest to get. And there's more parts available like lenses.🤙
+1
And they are a good medium size. If they fit big, then you know Penny will be fine. If they fit a bit small then I’d advise against a penny and going to XX/XS/R1
