M Frame Gen2 frame / lens compatibility

I found a gen 2 black m frame (no lens) a few years back for $90 in like-new condition. I went to an Oakley store a few months later and asked if the current replacement lenses for m frames would fit, and the rep said that they would, so I picked up a + red and black iridium. When I tried installing the +red, the frame split in two places. Were the lenses a different cut from the gen2 frame, or was the frame just old and brittle? Before I try to find another bridge, I want to know if I also need to cut or find older lenses to fit into them without definitely snapping them again.

Ya the lenses for the m frames names “new m frame “ that has the icon facing upward are wider. They usually don’t fit the old frames!
