Yay. Phone came back. Mad that it came at 5:20 pm. Could have went to work and left at 4:30.

Upside: I got an extra battery and charger.
Congrats. Hope everything is working again.

For anyone who saw my post yesterday in the GYG thread, this is the conclusion. Woke up this morning at 5 stressed out about my car. Before tearing apart the top half of the engine to get at the rear valve cover I decided to start it up again and look for whatever was causing the noise one more time with a level head. Figured out fairly quick it was the rear cylinders just like I thought. Then I noticed something else.

The computer finally threw a code while going to get the replacements, a misfire code. Here's what I now believe happened.

Somehow all this time the wires have been burned but not touching. Yesterday something happened that made the wires for the 3 rear cylinders cross over each other and actually burn through the jackets on all 3. That's why it sounded so terrible and made me think I'd broken something in the valve train. Not only did I have 3 cylinders misfiring, but they were also cross firing when the other plug wires would fire and arc to more than one plug wire. You should have heard the horrible noise. I swear to god it sounded like broken springs.

Anyway all is well and it's back to running like a top, even at 170k. For what it's worth those plug wires were purchased from rockauto.com. They were part of some closeout sale and I paid maybe $5 for them. I didn't even plan on replacing wires when I bought them but since I was buying other stuff I figured why not. They'd only been on the car a year and a half when this happened.

Wow. Good thing you figured it out calm rather than going straight to tearing everything apart. At least it's only wires and fixed. :)

Yeah. Could have been worse for sure. I had plans to buy a truck today if the valves were damaged on the Taurus. Looks like my plan of waiting until tax time is still in place.

Just saw the new phone pricing for the Note 5 and S6+ or whatever it is being called... I better hope my Note 4 holds out. Samsung has joined Apple in the 800 and 900 dollar phone club. Gee whiz!

You wanted the phone for FREE? :p

I know, at least at a decent price. But those big companies don't give a crap about the end user as its all about their profits.

As someone who refuses to sign contracts I've been in the $600 range for phones for quite some time. Usually upgrade a couple times per year.

Nah. I got over free phones a long time ago. If I got a free phone on a contract on Verizon (or on an installment plan), I'll lose my unlimited data. No thanks.

The days of $500 current flagships are gone. The G4 comes close, that's about it.

Already got Verizon reps looking at me because of my data plan. Lmao

I wonder if they would get some kind of bonus or incentive to get you off that unlimited data plan? Or just bragging rights? ;)
