The Video Games Thread

If you do enjoy the JRPGs, you have the real heavy hitter series out there - Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Persona and Fire Emblem are favourites of mine but you also have the likes of Tales, Mana, SaGa...
I played Fire Emblem and thought it was pretty good. Not as good as Divinity 2, but worth playing, for sure. I think I may play Final Fantasy next...I had played one of the first versions of that game years ago and enjoyed it, so I'd assume it only got better...

I've permanently regressed to console gaming... less stress a certain point of view.

Ive regressed to the point where my idea of a good time is playing Fortnite on the Switch
I tried PC gaming years ago and just never took to it...always played consoles. It just seems "easier". (I'm sure some will argue, and they are probably right)

I wasn’t sold on FFXV, it’s a bro road trip and more an action RPG than a classical one. FFVII remake is an action RPG too, but a much better one with a stronger story at heart - although in part fuelled by nostalgia for the PS1 original.

I’d recommend the FFX remaster if you like a strong story, although it’s not up to the graphical standards of XV and VIIR - it’s a remaster of a PS2 game rather than remade like FFVII.

I'm generally about storyline and not graphics, so much. Although, fighting interaction is key, too. This Xenoblade interface during battle is a bit wonky and I have to say, I've seen better. But, the story is kind of cool.

I’d choose VII Remake and X ahead of XV in that case. XV sticks a lot of story loose ends in paid DLC, which is annoying.

XII has you as a small cog in a grander story (that leans a bit on Star Wars) but has an unusual party and combat system. That’s available as a remaster on PS4 too.

Xbox One X gamer here.

I have so many games in my digital collection I can’t name them all I have 400 total in my library that is what I spent on not counting the free games that appear on the monthly games with gold.

Oh for sure it is way easier. I sometimes kick myself for insisting on PC gaming over console because yeah, trouble shooting software problems is the worst.
Just last week I ran into this problem with MechWarrior 5, it auto-updated itself in the background or something...a result of this was losing, yes losing completely, my saved games. Sooo 7 hours of progress lost. I literally just logged in one night and it was like "new game?" and "continue" was totally grayed out. Perfect problem to encounter when you're half drunk and just want to play your damn game with no problems.

The next day I am googling it and sure enough everyone else having the same problem, the developer being called out and bashed for allowing an update to occur that would wipe everyones files, and the developer responding saying sorry and suggesting a cheat tool to fake a save file... so absurd.

I ended up only losing 2 hours because luckily? The computer took a dump the week before when I had 5 hours progress and I reformatted the whole bitch while saving documents and files including my saves. So the 5 hour file was chilling in some "old windows" file system...

2 computer wrongs, a bunch of googling and file hunting, copy pasting etc and still losing 2 hours, and spent at least 2 hours fixing it as best it could be fixed. THOSE kind of experiences make me want to smash my computer and just play playstation or something, but then I realize wait MechWarrior 5 is only for PC right now, no choice but to tolerate the garbage that goes along with PC gaming if I want to play it :(
Worth it? I don't know, but I spent a bunch on this computer so I'm determined to forge ahead

Skyrim was fantastic on PC a few years back and seems to have good reviews on the Switch.
Been playing Skyrim for over a week now and am really liking it. Seems like the main quest line moves along quickly, even though I’m doing a good amount of the side quests. I am doing it on one of the easier setting though as I have trouble with the live combat...I do better with turn based. (I get flustered easily in my old age. 😁)
