Watches (other than Oakley) You're Wearing Today

Not to mention the Alaska Project IV prototypes, which is the same watch without the “Light” text but with tritium tubes and goes for an even more pretty penny! I can go and buy a Canopus Speedy with white gold case and bracelet and still have change from that! Even with rock solid provenance from NASA and Omega, I wouldn’t pay that much…

It took me until this month to actually buy a Speedy but I’ve been interested in them for much longer. To prove the point, here are some photos I took in Berlin’s KaDeWe department store in 2009 when they had a Moonwatch exhibit up.

Some mission models, with the mission patch in the running seconds register.

The full platinum (so case and bracelet) Apollo 11 40th anniversary watch that is a bit of a wishful thinking grail of mine - it’s over twice the weight of either current stainless steel watches.

An actual issued and flight worn watch that used to belong to Thomas Stafford and was worn on the Gemini 9 and Apollo 10 missions. That’s kinda cool right?

A watch presented to Aleksei Yeliseyev ahead of the joint Apollo-Soyuz mission but not actually worn on that flight.

A gold watch to celebrate the moon landing that was offered to Richard Nixon (another was offered to Spiro Agnew) but was declined thanks to presidential rules on the value of gifts. One instance of Nixon being not so tricky - maybe later in his presidency he would have taken it under the table. The caseback is still engraved to him anyway. The (more deserving?) Apollo astronauts all got one too.

I had a deposit down on an Apollo 50th. I ended up pulling it because I did not like the image of Buzz on the Lunar Lander and the escalated price of $10k US with tax. I’m not a flipper type and just felt it would be hard to wear. Glad I kept the money in my pocket. I too a. A big fan of the watch and history though….

They’ve had much better anniversary watches than that one imo. 55th anniversary this year, let’s see if they do anything special.

Does anyone use the Watchee app? I have been using is for 4-5 years and love it. Wish they did a sunglasses version honestly!

Does it record your collection? I just use spreadsheets tbh.
It does, you can put a lot of data in there from purchase information to complications and case details plus the movements and track wear rate. There is a summary button and in the settings an Export CSV option If you want to spreadsheet it!
