Yeah, so the thing around my neck is a Watchmakers loupe (magnifying glass).
I got in the habit of keeping it with me, because way back in watchmaking school if you left your loupe on your bench,the other students would smear a black grease that is used on mainsprings around the "rim" of the loupe, once you put the loupe with the black grease on your eye it would leave a black ring on your face that would not wash off for about two days.
