What Really Grinds Your Gears?

When somebody outbid me for 1$ in couple seconds before auction close and win item. Specially, when I wake up in the middle of the night to watch auction end. And going back to sleep, thinking what you're looser...this really grinds.

i guess what they did was auto auction... they put the highest price that they want to pay and they will win by 1$ is the bid price is lower. for example the item was priced at 100, i will put 160 as my autobid highest price... you put your bid on 110 with one minute left... then time expires and i will win the item and pay 111$. so its like losing by 1$... happened to me a couple of times (losing by 1$)... but i also won a few items buy doing this.

I'm talkin' about situation, when you are higher bidder, set max bid for 100$ in example and in last seconds comes another man and outbid you by one$. And got no time to hit "increase max bid".))

Honestly what is wrong with that? You set the price of 100. That is what you felt like paying and why does it matter if you lost by 1 dollar or 50 cents. If you really wanted the item you should post a higher cap. Sniping only works on people who try to get the items for the cheapest price. It is a risk.

I soon realised after not winning anything because of sniping that the only way to beat them was to join them...

Put your absolute max in as late as possible - if you're outbid, it's too late to respond but then you've entered what you were prepared to go to. Someone was just ready to go higher.

Exactly - no nibbling away at the current bid; when you snipe bid you put in your true maximum bid. Sniping has a lot of advantages but mainly it just doesn't give anybody else the chance to raise your cost by nibbling away at your bid as it sits there.

But if you snipe your max and lose, then you don't have the time to put in a higher bid. Which is good; if you already put in your true max bid, that prevents you from overpaying in the heat of the moment. There's always next time...
