You can't win. I used to give them a chance to go through their spiel before telling them no. Then one time a guy got pissed that I'd "wasted his time" letting him go through it all instead of saying no up front. WTF?!? I'm talking so aggressively pissed that I had to call the cops. And arm myself. It was really crazy.

So now, if one's lucky enough to pin me down (like while I'm doing work in the front) I just tell them no up front and if they give me that "but you don't yet know what I'm selling" BS I just tell them I don't care. If I'm feeling polite.

AT&T has been very aggressive in my neighborhood lately. If they don't catch you the first time they keep coming back. The other day I heard The Wife tell them no like four times and they kept asking to speak to me instead. I so much enjoy the look on their faces when I tell them to F off...

Sounds like the panhandlers in my city.

yea I'm usually a pretty blunt ******* to people just showing up at my door/in general and trying to sell me something. I was pissed the comcast person that called me about week after i first signed up. I didn't get a cable plan cuz I dont really watch TV, and this girl would not stop trying to get me to add it to my plan. I finally told her I really dont care what it costs, I don't want it, and don't call me again or i'll cancel all together, and they haven't called me since.

Made me think of a related topic - newspapers. Specifically, newspapers you didn't ask for being delivered to your house. Some are a local community rag; I get a couple of those a week. But for the last three weeks the city's major newspaper has been leaving me "free samples" of their giant Sunday edition, too.

I don't read newspapers any more. I get my news online. The only thing these people are doing is littering my property that I have to pick up each week. I can call them and tell them to stop, but that either has no effect or, at best, a temporary one.

It'd be easier if they'd just put it directly in my trash can.

Update:

Insurance Co is great car should be done tomorrow. And i got the wife to get rid of old baby stuff we had been saving in the garage so we can now put the van in the garage. but i have had to reorganize my woodworking stuff and i will have to set stuff up when i want to use it now vs leaving it out but small price to pay to keep the new paint job safe
