The overall attitude of the forum has been bothering me a bit lately. Mostly due to the new releases. I've ranted on this stuff a few times, but it still just gnaws at me when I'm reading the forum.
Like the shot about the broken Madman where the member said something about "potmetal". As if to insinuate these glasses are made of junk diecast pot metals. Just a shot across the bow. "LuX-Metals" as one of the new names, another in a long line of comments showing the forum's disdain for, and hate-to-love-but-love-to-hate regard for, Lux. It's boring. It's more boring than a Breadbox 2.0 release. It's backed by zero fact. Just a feeling of "this isn't good enough" or whatever it stems from.
As much as I dislike negative comments, they serve their purpose and don't bother me much when they're opinion. "I think these are ugly". Sure, they're not everyone's bag, whatever. But the continued negative comments. "These aren't REAL X-Metals" and all the Lux comments about cheapening the brand, charging so much for plastic, on and on ad nauseum.
Nails on a chalkboard doesn't make my skin crawl as much as lux-bashing. Because for the most part it's ignorant parroting and vain attempts at finding an outlet for frustration.
But now we're seeing things trickle out. Madman and Badman. Jawbone. The glimpse at the Tailspin or whatever that was. The Tombstone. We're getting legit OAKLEY glasses after years of designers making things that sold and designs that were popular enough to bring new blood to the brand and make a ton of money in certain target markets that didn't include long-time fans of the brand.
But everyone wants to harp on the use of the X-Metal name for the new glasses. They want so much to find something wrong they can't sit back and realize that Oakley just made a pair of glasses that won't sell well. Like the outlandish, head turning designs the people of the forum have claimed to have wanted for years. The Mad Man is UGLY, but it's also such a beautiful pair to see as an Oakley fan. It's an OTT. It's a Splice. It's a Romeo. It's a pair of glasses made to NOT sell Madman glasses, but to sell the BRAND of Oakley as being outside the box.
Oh, but there's another pair made by Oliver's People with round lenses and no lower nose bridge. So what? Did they make theirs bolt together and come in a case that looks like a grenade? No, they looked like pretentious glasses, cost twice as much as the Madman, and are only sold in malls that require a credit check to walk into.
A few people with inside information have been warning that Oakley is making a comeback in 2015. Get your head out of the past. Jim's not around. Hans isn't around. There was more derivative designing being done over a more limited spectrum of models in the 90's, yet with every release there's someone who wants to not move past the name being used, or how it looks similar to something else. Be happy Oakley isn't stuck in the past. Be happy they're not trying to rehash 20 year old wrap shades like a lot of brands.
I never said some of the comments and criticism weren't warranted.I havent really said anything about the new releases yet as I still havent seen anything in person. I did however warn somewhere at sometime about multiple pairs of the Carbon Blade "breaking" where the lens attaches to the frame. Ive seen this in person and in pics.
I also stand behind my bashing of LUX when it comes to generic boxes for limited edition pairs and their overall greed in general. Oakley for the last year has been cutting long standing sponsorships to try to save a buck here or there to pad the bottom line even more than it already is.
I love Oakley, I dont love Oakley's parents.
I will agree there has been a lot of bashing in general and to be honest this year looks like a great year for new releases from what I have seen so far. I just hope I can afford to buy some of them at some point.

LOL. no biggie. We agree on a lot of things. One thing we dont agree on is the love of cold weather thoughI never said some of the comments and criticism weren't warranted.![]()
