I don't think there are any rules stating a pair designed for cycling can't or shouldn't be used for other activities. Well, what was the flak designed for? what about M-frames? Sutros?

Thy were all designed for one thing - to be worn. The use case is decided by the user, not the manufacturer.
 
Looks to me like they are for moving through dense forest, where you want to keep the brush off your lens as much as possible, but I am just spitballing here.
