Grade school is Elementary, kindergarten, 1st grade, up through 8th. 6-8 are usually middle school or junior high school. So the age range is something like 5-14?

In Australia we have kindergarten for ages 3-5, primary school typically for ages 6-12 and secondary school for 12-18

The UK is similar. Nursery til you're 4, then infants/juniors til you are 11 or 12 I think and the seniors (at comprehensive School) til you are 16. If you choose to "stay on" at school you can do 6th Form until you are 18 or you can leave and go to College and then you go to University if you wanna continue studying.
