🦘Cacatman's Personal Coronavirus COVID-19 Update Thread

Some Euro input for you cacatman:

One in 1,000 Americans has now died of coronavirus

The number of infected is still rising rapidly in the United States.

Meanwhile, the United States has begun mass vaccination, hitting yet another annoying milestone.
For now, 1 in 1,000 Americans has died while ill with covid-19.

There are approximately 330 million people living in the United States. In addition to the high number of deaths, the United States is also approaching 20 million infected with rapid steps.
On Christmas Eve, 192,000 new infected Americans were registered, bringing the total number of infected to nearly 19 million cases.
However, the United States is not the only country where 1 in 1,000 people have died as a result of covid-19.

Several European countries on the list

There are a total of 12 countries on the list, if you do not count the micronations San Marino and Andorra.
Most of them are European countries where the death toll is even higher.

Belgium is in first place. Here, about 1.6 out of 1000 died. But in Belgium, deaths are counted differently from the rest of Europe, which also causes the number of deaths to be higher.

Because if you suspect that a nursing home resident has died of coronavirus, then you do not test them, you simply register the death as corona-related. Thus, the real number may be lower.
There are several European countries on the list, including Italy, the United Kingdom and Spain.
In Italy, 1.1 out of 1000 have died of coronavirus, while in the UK and Spain it is 1 in 1000, just like the United States.

Earlier this year, the world was shocked when images came from northern Italy's Bergamo of a procession of military trucks filled with corpses to be cremated.

While it looks bad for our European comrades in the south, Denmark is doing very well if you look at the death toll in relation to the number of inhabitants.
Here, just over 1,100 people died while ill with covid-19. This means that the number of deaths in Denmark is about 1 in 5,000, or just under 200 per one million inhabitants.

At the same time, Denmark is one of the countries in the world that has tested the most.

Denmark has conducted more than ten million tests on almost four million Danes. That equates to 1.75 million tests per one million inhabitants.
If you do not count micronations, Denmark is the country in the world that has tested the second most. Only the United Arab Emirates has tested more.

CK Levels - Muscle Involvement in COVID-19

Contributing to the ongoing exploration of the extent of neurologic involvement with SARS-CoV-2 infection, the authors explored possible muscle involvement and report findings from 351 patients with COVID-19 and 258 with influenza. Almost 1 in 4 patients had elevated CK levels, which correlated somewhat with the severity of the disease. The authors found that the frequency of elevated CK levels was similar in COVID-19 and influenza, but CK levels were lower in COVID-19 compared with influenza in both mild and severe disease.

Just one meme sir. I promise.

Age is the Strongest Risk Factor Associated with Death
Recently published in JAMA Network, the study assessed over 64,000 outpatients and 35,000 inpatients with COVID-19. Of those patients, they identified a median age of 46 for outpatients, while inpatients were roughly 65 years. In terms of the makeup, 49.3% were men, 39.9% were White, and 22% were Black.

The authors noted that “a total of 5625 inpatients (15.9%) received invasive mechanical ventilation, and 6849 (19.4%) were admitted to the ICU. Median (IQR) inpatient LOS was 6 (3-10) days. Median (IQR) ICU LOS was 5 (2-10) days. Common acute complications among inpatients included acute respiratory failure (19,706 [55.8%]), acute kidney failure (11 971 [33.9%]), and sepsis (11 910 [33.7%]).”

Ultimately, the study underscored that older age was the strongest risk factor associated with death, whereas receiving statins and calcium channel blockers were associated with decreased odds of death. What was particularly interesting, was the note from the authors that “compared with patients with no hydroxychloroquine or azithromycin, patients with both azithromycin and hydroxychloroquine had increased odds of death.”

Current COVID-19 Vaccinations per 100 People

Higher Viral Loads = Higher Death Rates
They found that 40 percent of patients with high viral loads — whose tests were positive at a Ct of 25 or below — died while in the hospital, compared with 15 percent of those with positive tests at higher Cts and presumably lower viral loads.

Average Ct Value of 23.4 in people who died from COVID-19 compared to 27.5 in those who survived.

People who were asymptomatic had an average value of 29.6

Patient with Ct < 22 had more than 4 times the odds of dying within 30 days
