M Frame lens / frame compatibility

I picked up an M Frame gen 2 (circa 1998) frame only a few months ago. I'm looking for a lens, and want to confirm that anything made for the M-frame will fit up until the M2 (excluding Mag, of course). There wasn't any change in the size or how it connected until then, correct?

Yes and no. Anything should fit, but a tight frame and a lens on the mildly larger side and you won't have a fit. Plus the gen2 is brittle to try and force a fit.

There was a minor change during gen1 to the attachment, the earliest lenses will only fit gen1 frames.

And the opposite, a smaller cut lens on a loose frame and you won't have enough tension to hold the lens in.
