I dont use reserves either. But when I sell a big ticket item, i start the auction at my minimum selling price. If it goes, it goes. If not, oh well. Maybe it'll go another day.. but I wont start an auction at 100 bucks for something worth a grand.. thats still a rookie mistake..

It may pad one person's pocket that day... but in the end it hurts the buyers. We are all buyers. Market value is only what one is willing to pay. But when the market gets driven up unnecessarily, its hurts everyone involved. Not a particular seller on a given day.

I must interject but "unnecessarily " shouldn't be used. Supply and demand, I could tell everyone about every deal. But uninterested buyers won't even give it a second glance. So if so many people want plates or any other frame that gets bid up, maybe it's price should go up since it's so coveted.

Why keep low balling people that have such nice items? I get no one wants to pay full price, but would you like someone to buy something from you for 5% of what it's worth because you didn't know? Would you offer the same price to someone face to face?
