So this guy goes flying past my house on a skateboard....... I watch him go past.....think to myself....damn he is moving..... realize he isn't pushing at all the whole way.....and he is going uphill.....

Has this country gotten even lazier? SERIOUSLY??????

Not that he was fat or anything but still......How about we all buy bicycles with little motors on it so pedaling is completely not needed at all? OH wait.....

Maybe I should have put that in the grinds my gears thread? It didn't really grind my gears though...just making an observation.

I've had similar thoughts watching neighborhood kids buzz around on electric thingamagigs. Seems like cheating...

But it's the parents who are buying those things; I think they're doing their kids a disservice... but oh well.

I will say, though, that The Kid's bike is a pedal-pusher... ;)

It's crazy how lazy some kids seem to be, but I can't get mine to stop running. Every freakin place he goes, inside, outside, whatever, he runs. I remember running quite a bit when I was younger but good lord. Add the dog to that and there's a mini stampede going through my house almost constantly.

Yeah I'm with you there - The Kid is always running around, climbing and jumping off of things, making me reminisce about the eternal energy of youth. And she's a girl; the boys her age seem even worse...

Last Thursday she fell and skinned both knees pretty good, not scraping cement but friction burn on commercial-grade carpet. "Bathe-bathe night-night" time has been a lot more difficult the past few days, with them stinging in the water, removing / replacing bandages, etc; they're hurting her a lot...

I always worry that someone is going to think I beat my kid. He's always got bruises all over his shins and knees, sometimes on his arms. He just doesn't have a low gear, everything he does is always at full speed and usually ends with sliding across the floor or the dog trouncing him. I don't know if he doesn't feel it as its happening, ignores it, or just bruises easily.

I used to tear my knees up pretty bad when I was grade school age. I made ramps out of anything I could and jumped it with my bike and had a bad habit of getting going as fast as possible down the road so I could lock up my back tire in the gravel and spin out. Ended up on my ass plenty of times. I found that the more moist I could keep the skin the more comfortable it was. It took a little longer to heal sometimes because it didn't scab up but it felt a lot better than letting it dry out and pull the skin so tight it reopened when I moved around. You probably know that already but I figured I'd waste my time typing it out anyway. Hope she feels better soon.

I used to do all kinds of crazy stuff, now my right knee hurts when I sit still too long. Or move too much. Or stand on it. But I'm one of the few in my extended family without knee surgery.

I loved playing hockey in college. No knee pain. Racquetball was brutal. I stopped playing football and running on concrete in high school. I stopped running altogether in college.

I may have mentioned this on here before but I was a state level hurdler in high school and was just generally fast. Our track meets had a limit of 5 events per person and I'd often take home 8+ medals thanks to some creative paperwork from my coach. I ran 110 and 300 hurdles, 400, 800, 1600 relays, and sometimes individual 200 and 400 with some long and high jump mixed in. At the time it was a ton of fun, these days it feels like the cartilage in my knees has been replaced with pea gravel.

Good thing you weren't a ballet dancer... ;)
