Sorry to say I don’t see this one happening. Beyond the reach of my big paws anyway. This rattler skin is like old school onion skin paper. I doubt it would hold the thread without tearing.

That having been said I think it might be perfect for wrapping a Mars Standard or some other X-Metal where no stitching is needed. I’ll save this bit and try it on the Mars when it gets back from X-Man.

Sooo…what to use on the Coyote Crater? I have Burnt Orange Stingray (already successfully used that) or even some cognac Tegu Lizard that’s slightly thicker…and there is still the ultra thin Kid Skin to try…decisions decisions.

In the up side…it looks cool as heck to me

Lots of options left…playing with dyes. Forgot I had a white grey snake skin so dyed it Army Tan. A little thicker…worth a try. Also dyed a couple bits of the thin kid skin…and since I was on a roll a few Olive Drab options for the MARS Standard for when it gets back.

At the end of the day I can try a myriad and it’s all good practice. Best part is I’m putting these on with a glue that’s easily removable…so snip the thread and I can change em at will.

Ended up with a darker color than I’d hoped for…but all good. I dig the Army Tan, Tobacco, Cognac colorways. I can always keep my eyes open for a larger rattlesnake skin that is thicker. This is Watersnake. Great textures!

Think I’ve settled on Stingray for the OD Mars Standard. The existing green was too light so I used Angelus Leather Paint to get closer to the olive color I was looking for. No stitch holes needed…just up to the glue to hold it in place…or maybe carpet tape.

Had one of those “lightbulb” moments this AM!

Most of the snakeskin I picked up is onion skin paper thin…soooooo…I nuclear bond glued (Barge glue) some black snake skin to some black gaffers tape. If the theory is correct then one could have multiple sets on a piece of wax paper and change without harming or leaving residue on the frames and reuse them over and over. Even on the gaffers tape it’s thinner than most leather I’ve used.

Can’t really test it out till my Mars Standards return from X-Man…but,

Since I’m in standby for my OD Mars Standard to return decided to try a (hopefully) quick Sunday project. Been meaning to do this for awhile…specifically to fit what I consider my travel sunglasses. Can’t fit a hard or soft vault in a cargo pocket but want some protection beyond a microfiber cloth bag.

We shall see…

(…yeah I am an Edgar Rice Burroughs fan. My favorite series of his was John Carter of Mars…surprised it took me this long to start acquiring Oakleys Mars ).
