What Are You Driving ?

I realize that.

Subarus have been on my list for a while. I got close to buying a Legacy, but it lacked a certain Joie de vivre. I'm sure the STi has it, but I literally can't get into the car. It's not an opinion thing, it's that my ear is on the door trim and my head is in the roof when I'm in the car. That car was last generation, so I need to go sit in a new one; if they added 3" I might be good to go, even if they look like **** now.

Though the white isn't bad. I wish they kept the hatchback.

Similarly, I could wait for the AWD Focus RS that will be AWD, but sitting in a Focus a few years ago the B pillar was in front of my shoulder and while the car fit alright the fact that I was sitting so far back made it awkward to see out and reach all of the controls.

I'd love to get the BMW, but I don't know if I can realistically afford it. I could pay cash and wipe out my savings, but i was hoping to stay under 30 so that I'd be fine financing most of it.
I think you're looking for the perfect car, which doesn't exist...

you're just going to have to pick and chose the most important things you want and pull the trigger...

weigh cost versus comfort versus power versus reliability versus anything you want...

I'm trying to figure out how a Subaru STi is "tighter" inside than a Mini lol......

but the hatch STi was my second favorite style...the 2004-2007 was my favorite...

my god - less than 11,000 miles !!!!!!!!

this 2011 allegedly has Lifetime Warranty ??

either of those two cars will be faster than the STi...go sit in one and test drive it...

you'll never want to give the keys back, especially knowing tha you have to get back into your Mini lol.....

I dont know crap honestly about the cars mentioned but what about one of these?

We kinda looked at one when my wife wanted a new car. Some friends bought one a few months later and they love it.

there are a plethora of really nice turbo'd AWD SUV's, but I'm not sure if rusty is interested.....

I'm not really concerned with what's faster than what. I don't race. I just enjoy driving. I mainly want a car that is fun to drive, that I fit in, and makes me excited to drive it.

And the Mini is a fantastic car. The only two dings are the FWD and low power, but that only matters if you're trying to overpower another car. If you've never driven one I think you might want to reserve statements about how ****ty it is and how much I'll want to leave it behind.

Everyone raves about the DSG boxes in VW cars, I test drove one and didn't really care for it. It's faster than a stick, better than an auto, but it doesn't have the feeling of working three pedals and a stick and being 100% (or as close to it as possible in modern cars) in control. So I test drove a manual Jetta and it had vague gates, long throws, too much of an economy-car feel over a tight shifter in a sportier car. Even if those cars tick every box on my checklist in terms of tangibles, they lack a certain feel to drive that makes them fun to get in and go get groceries or whatever.

I've said it before; if my car had maybe 100hp more (to be floating just south of 300) and AWD it wouldn't even be a contest. The biggest thing I want to change is AWD. I'm in the snow belt and FWD just sucks. I've made it work for a few years. They make a car very similar to mine in AWD, that's slightly bigger, but the added weight and AWD system on the same platform is a step back in power that I really would rather not take. I could tune and mod it, but that's not what I want to do.

an AWD Mini with "just south of 300hp" would be a $55-60K car, seriously......

the power to weight ration would be through the roof AND the fact that it's technically a BMW, you're looking at spending MINIMUM $50K for a base model AWD 300hp Mini....

you've mentioned low power as one of the "dings" that your Mini has and then you mentioned the word power twice before you finished the post...

this is what I think: you want a fast car that's AWD, but it's hard for you to justify the cost of performance

there are only 3 or 4 cars out there with a 5-speed or 6-speed transmission, AWD and that will effortlessly allow you to make a pass on a car in traffic...

hell, the 3 cars I mentioned above will allow you to WIDE OPEN THROTTLE AND LEAVE A TRAIL OF **** BEHIND YOU as you pass a car on the highway during a hurricane or even a snow storm......

your options are limited man, sorry......

M package is nice on that car....BUT for snow if it has the lower profile wider tires it kinda makes the driving a little ..........interesting......

The 4 door is nice to toss stuff into the back seat but with your size don't expect anything but a tiny kid ever sitting behind you if you put a person in the car. ;)
Pretty decent space in the E90/92, don't think it would be too cramped.

Yeah... The 2011 EVO's are awesome cars... But @Rustpot will definitely have to sit in it for a 'feel' test... They aren't really comfortable cars...

I have a 2009 lancer (the only major difference are the Recaro seats) and he comfort is lame and interior spacing is tight

I'm 6'1' 190 lbs

Anything bigger than that may not enjoy themselves
