What Are You Driving ?

The blue 392 got totaled on 1-Oct when some unlicensed POS kid ran a stop sign and my wife tboned him on the passenger side...

Contemplated a number of cars like a CTSV, Hellcat, AMG C63 or even another 392 SRT, but on Thanksgiving, one of my good friends let me borrow his M3P for the afternoon...

We were instantly hooked...I secretly ordered it on Christmas Eve while sitting in the Starbucks line and when I showed my wife the confirmation, she SCREEEEECHED !!!!

Finally got it on 18-Mar 👍🏼

Rivian is sooooo badass - I'm sure it will be a major contender after a few more years 🔥

The M3P is def a worthy replacement. How do the charging stations work? I looked at on today on base and it looks like you need some app to run it and it must cost money?
 
Confused me at first, we didn’t have Competitions in the E90/2/3 generation in Europe, that’s a BMW of NA equipment pack. We did get the GTS though, which made up for it - don’t know if that made it stateside too?
The 4.4 liter GTS is EU only. A few have been gray market imported into the States. I have seen one at a M3 meetup. My car has the GTS DSG ecu programming.

Houston is the 4th biggest city in this entire nation, so finding an EV charging station is a piece of cake, but you have to pay...we've only had to pay once and it was @ $13 to get 180 miles on that charge, which took 60 minutes...some require apps and other will just ask you for payment method - it can be cumbersome if you don't have many Tesla Supercharging Stations around you or a Tesla Wall Charger (will likely require an electrician to run all the lines and power)

We got the Tesla Wall Charger installed at home - Mayra only drives about 40 miles a day, so every two or three nights we throw it on the charger...

We can tell the car to "open your butthole" and the charge cap opens up hahahaha !!!!

All interesting to learn.....I know JACK about EV's. I'm in CT for work ATM and did notice a Tesla charging station. I'd say $13.00 for 180 miles is pretty damn cheap, that would cost me like $60.00 with these gas prices, lol.
 
No one really thinks about the total costs to drive an EV vehicle. True you can charge it at home w/o pay to play costs but you still are paying for the electricity. As mentioned the good charger take 220 to run so if you dont already have that circuit in the garage there is another expense. Traveling with an EV is interesting as you have to schedule charging stops along the way. Limited chargers = possible extra waits in line to get to it.

One thing is for sure however the torque the electric motors puts out = impressive acceleration!

It’s very situational, but the lower voltage and generally longer travel distances in the US certainly make it a harder sell there. Here in the UK we have 230V domestic electricity supply anyway and the longest drive I take with any regularity at all (maybe 3 or 4 times a year pre-pandemic) is about 70 miles to Heathrow airport, which I think is pretty much nothing from a US perspective. So an EV makes a lot of sense here, with fewer compromises needed. Instant maximum torque is still impressive even when you’re used to driving large capacity (again from a European perspective!) turbodiesels with tons of low down torque.
 
I charge at home and yes, it's not free, but it's also not costing me $80 to fill up from empty to full...

More like $13-14 based on my kw/h service charge...

Doing the math:

$80 x 50 times a year = $4000
$13 x 50 times a year = $650

And with that, I don't mind waiting 20 minutes for a full charge if I'm keeping $60-70 in my pocket 🙌🏼
