What Was Your First Pair, Or What Got You Hooked On Oakley

Neon yellow with fire razor blades, bought back in 89 for $100. I though my parents would kill me for spending so much on a pair of sunglasses. I stupidly sold them about 15 years later, still in perfect condition. I wish I had kept them.

the first time i had a proper look in an oakley cabinet was in 'moist' in 1999. i saw a leather mars, a jet black-gold racing jacket, and a leather straight jacket. a psychological development resulted as the images of the three pairs became fused, causing 'acute oakley sunglass acquisition syndrome', an apparent ailment without cure. i took my first drug on 6/7/99, the texas tea-gold frogskins. i have remained addicted since, and have found the only solution is to keep getting more glass. now..nearly 13 years and 793 pairs later, i have learned that it is impossible to escape. sunglasses my friends.....sunglasses.

My addiction started with the Blades, sometime around 1987-88. I saved up my money for months and spent countless days arguing with my parents about buying the glasses. They finally caved in, and I got my first pair. I really wanted a clear frame with iridium, but ended up with a pair of pink/black with grey lenses, and a set of clear and turquoise earstem replacements.

I took a break from Oakley for years, and just recently came back when I found out the Frogskins were back on the market (which restarted my addiction again).

Growing up I had two pairs of Half Jackets. During highschool, I splurged on a pair of the 24K Gold and Silver frame X-Metal XX. Sadly the X-Metals walked off while at boarding school, and one of the half jacket's only lasted 6 days. As a sailing instructor, and in the process of jybeing, the boom on one of our boats knocked them straight into the water, and down they went.

Ditto.

My first pair of Oakleys was a pair of Clear/Violet Frogskins...I bought these at Sunglass Hut in 1990 for $65....the year I graduated...the "post-neon" years...LOL....I had a Ninja 600R and this is when the "Crotch Rockets" were really "in"....so I'm out "cruising" with my buddies on Sat night and if you remember it was cool to keep your sunglasses just above your eyebrows at night when riding because you cannot see a damn thing at night with sunglasses on....so then when you see a cop a simple "nod" drops your glasses....well mine dropped just a little too low and when I tried to save it the Froggies fell off and were flattened by a car behind me...I had them for a week....I vowed to NEVER buy another expensive pair of sunnies again...well that all ended once I saw Brandon Bernstein at the NHRA event in Joliet a few years back...always wanted a pair of Juliets but could never afford them....well low and behold now I have 6 pairs....looking to be 15 pairs by years end.....

What got me hooked? Seeing sweet pairs that absolutely dominated anything anyone else was making. I bought foakleys when I was in middle school so I could get closer to owning a pair.

My first pair was a set of XX in 03-04 I think. They were way too small for me, but I loved them and wore them everywhere. A few years later I got a set of M Frames and it was all over.

The Nanowire 2.0. I was simply amazed by the clarity, the hydrophobic coating, and the Anti-reflective coating. It was amazing! Too bad there's a very limited selection of lenses with the anti-reflective coating

First pair was my Oakley Scar FMJ Red/Black Iridium. I was only about 14 when I bought them. Not my photo but I'll have to take collection pics some time.
