What's On Your Plate???

Yesterday lunch at Rainforest Cafe - very theme-style family oriented; it's supposed to be like you're in the jungle / rainforest. This is the interior:

Every 20 mins or so they'd turn down the lights and do a thunder-n-lightning show. A bit too much - each time a buncha kids started crying. My daughter just sat there with her hands over her ears.

Anyway, had a nice IPA, got to keep the glass:

And here's the entree. The cheesy thing on the left had shrimp and scallops in it; it was allright. On the skewers were coconut shrimp; a bit overcooked / dry for my tastes. On the right was blackened talapia with a mango salsa; it was quite tasty:

That night we went to the Olympia Grill. Though they have a location close to our condo on Seawall, it's just a strip center hole-in-the-wall - we drove a little further to hit up their classy waterside location on Pier 21.

I mentioned in another thread how I really like certain raw proteins, including scallops. But I only get raw scallops at sushi places; I've never seen them on the half-shell, like oysters or clams. Now I have. When you first pop them open, scallops have a "skirt" around them - it's edible but undesirable and is usually removed. These had the skirt cleaned off but they were still attached to the remaining shell. On top is a little seaweed salad. Delicious...

We also shared a grilled octopus salad:

The Wife had a softshell crab:

"Grandma" had a crab stuffed bossa filet:

And I had the Seafood Platter - grilled scallops, stuffed shrimp, seafood/crab/cheese balls, fried shrimp, and fried fish filet:

It was all excellent.

And tonight we went to... The Spot!

Sat outside 2nd level oceanside deck.

Excuse pic quality; it was at night and poorly lit. Half dozen oysters on the half shell:

Seafood / crab stuffed jalapeños:

"Shrimp kisses" - butterflied shrimp stuffed with cheese, bacon wrapped and fried. There were six but some grabby hands got to them before I could take the pic:

And I had a fried oyster platter:

I thought it was all very good. Thanks for the recommendation, fishy and litos!

One last PS...

When we arrived Thursday afternoon, this 1.75 L bottle of Scotch was full and unopened. This is how it looks now, Sat night. And I expect it'll be empty by the time I go to bed. Along with a 12-pack of beer. And half a dozen other beers at restaurants. With no help. Ah, vacation...

I've had horchata. A bit different than I expected, but very tasty. Could go well with vodka or rum... but not tequila.
