Assuming we're talking about the "proper" shallots that look like mini-onions, they've become a saute staple... ;)
Yeah I meant proper shallots. Any ******* can throw onions in a pan. Hahahahaha

I've run into a lot of people who think green onions are shallots for some reason... not even close.
They are shallots. And chives. And green onion. And probably more things I've heard people call them through the years.

Chives - yet another thing that's completely different...

I forgot about that one - once upon a time I was going to do twice-baked potatoes at a friend's house for a party; I specified chives and ended up with green onion... :(

I don't get the allium confusion either, but if you will call spring onions green onions... :D
Green color apparently makes it qualify as anything a person has ever eaten that was vaguely that shape and color.
