What's On Your Plate???

Friday night at a place called Trout Street Bar & Grill, on the porch overlooking the docks...

We came here because the online menu had both oysters on the half shell and fried oysters but when we got there, no oysters... :(

The view from our table...

House salad with ranch...

Fresh catch of the day, Black Drum. Blackened and topped with a creamy chipotle sauce. Pretty tasty.

And a couple of ala carte fried shrimp. Overall a pretty decent meal, despite the lack of oysters...

Damn! Have you calculated what you spend monthly on food? I bet it's worth a mortgage.

Saturday night...

There was this place we went to when we were here two years ago called the Pelican Club. It was a nightmare - we waited over two hours to get a table. Then after we finally got one, it took over an hour for the food to arrive. But we had to admit, once the food did finally arrive, it was pretty dang good...

These days the Pelican Club is closed. But their chefs went to this new place called Liberty Hall Inferno (BTW the menu pics online for this place are totally out of date, completely different). We showed up kinda late, only 1/2 before they closed, but we were seated promptly and the food arrived quickly...

Some apps - spicy deviled eggs topped with fried oysters, "shooters" with fried oysters in some kinda of creamy green chimichurri-ish sauce (this item they used to have at Pelican Club), and pork belly nachos. These were all super excellent!!!

A White Salmon filet for The Wife...

And a fried seafood combo plate for me - Black Drum filet, gigantic shrimp, oysters... also excellent! This was my favorite dinner of the bunch...

Well I may tip/sign the receipts at the restaurants but The Wife handles the finances / bills / budget, so I'm sure she could tell you monthly tabs...

But really, this was while we were on vacation. Weekly, I typically cook 5 nights a week, we go out one night, and we eat at my mother's on Sundays. So the 5:1 eat in/out ratio keeps the bottom line more affordable... ;)

Finally, on the way back on Sunday we stopped in New Braunfels for a late lunch / early dinner at a place called River Hofbrau & Beer Garden.

A traditional Wiener Schnitzel, breaded pork loin cutlet (not a hot dog...)

Chicken Fried Ribeye steak (not cube steak) topped with fried jalapeño strips...

And for me, a sampler of one house-made sausage link, one jalapeño bratwurst, and one traditional bratwurst, served with German potato salad and some sort of side of cabbage with smoked bacon. There was also house-made sauerkraut hiding under there. It was all super delicious, and giant portions!

That is a good ratio. We usually eat out twice a week, but it is usually Chick-fil-A, pizza, or a restaurant downtown. We don't do the whole Michelin Star rated 100 course meal restaurants.

I seriously don't think I would eat 70% of what you eat. It really is cool to see though, and know that you are enjoying it, which is all that matters.
