It's still kind of cool to get a low serial number from a numeric point of view, regardless of whether it was random or not. Even if it could be proven that serial #017532 was the first one produced, I'd still prefer #000001!!

The first “0030” should be awesome, if you can find one tht is

Can't edit the post anymore, but based on the the discussion I'd like to add two bullet points to the list of assumptions going into the estimate:

• Serials are sequential, not random or pseudo-random
• No numbers were skipped. If you have reason to believe a certain percentage was skipped, subtract that percentage from the total, et voilá.
