I believe that is only because a select few have huge fortunes.

If you want healthcare like here in Europe, you have to pay 40 to 50% in income tax. No other way to finance it. If there is a another way let me know, and tell the leaders of europe that secret as well, thank you

I make more than the average and just for ****s I plugged in my info into a German tax calculator. My take home would be nearly the same as what I have now, and I’m even on my wife’s health insurance.

If people would actually stop and think instead of just throwing around crazy numbers and tossing their hands up, I’d bet we could figure it out.

No doubt, it's expensive. But the rich could be a taxed a heck of a lot more than they are. That's a big problem regardless of socialist policies. Tax burden is squarely on the middle class right now. And that's not unique to the US.

I know there's a lot of folks here screaming that socialism is evil but I gotta tell you, a little socialism ain't that bad. I don't get why it seems so scary to you guys.

Unemployment benefits are a form of socialism. Healthcare... I don't get the fear. Seems like people equate social programs with communism here.

Does Europe have the problem of over 50% of people not paying Federal Income Tax? I'm just curious as I've heard all income is taxed with no deductions, and I've heard only income above a certain amount.

To say that socialism is bad is an understatement!

Why?

I'd say communism is bad. Socialism? Not so much. And I certainly don't have an issue with a free system with social programs.
