Buying Eye Jackets - Modern releases or original?

I'm looking to bite the bullet and buy a pair of eye jackets but I'm debating in my head whether to go for the Brain Dead release/OG Cobalt eye jackets. I've heard some bad things about the original O-Matter and actually plan to wear them around, anyone got strong opinions on this?

For a wear pair, i would go for one of the recent release pairs or maybe a gen 2 if you can find a pair at a good price. I would definitely avoid gen 1 (square hinges) for regular wearing.

The rounded hinges are the best for wearing regularly. The originals are like a timebomb(not their watch!!!): one day they're fine, then when you go the next, they've broken on the earstem or frame orbit.

Hang out for a while. Once you meet the requirements for the Exchange, you'll find plenty of the Braindead EJs for sale at a good price.

I 100% agree with the other posts. The Original EJ O-Matter is brittle and even on smaller heads it's not worth the risk if you're looking for a pair to wear regulalry. Eye Jacket New or the Brain Dead are the way to go.

Thanks for the responses everyone, I'll hit the exchange soon and see what I can get. Fair to assume that the Satisfy/Kith/Piet/GDLP releases are of a similar quality to the Brain Dead ones? Considering those too but the price might be a bit prohibitive.

i prefer the feel and fit of the vintage NEJ to the new eye jacket releases. original o-matter just feels so much better than whatever thermoplastic they use now. they're not terrible but feel like they have less flex, feel a bit tighter on the face, and lighter in weight. i would not wear any square hinge eye jackets though as you're asking for them to break.
