Gen 4 Juliet, Plasma, Blue Iridium - First Pair

The bridge is pretty easy to check - there shouldn’t be too much movement. If it’s obviously loose then it likely needs tightened and replacement of the bands.

Hi everyone,

I wish I knew about this forum and it's exchange threads sooner. I think I massively overpaid ($460, after tax and shipping), hoping you all can tell me how I did, how much I may have overpaid by.

The frames seem like they're in good condition (trying not to feel too bad about my purchase haha), but I'm seeing comparable set ups for about $350 shipped from here. Also hoping you all might be able to give me some advice on whether I might need to tune this up, or replace anything.

Much appreciated,

ryan

Since you asked whether the $460 price was too high...yes, but not ludicrously considering that was the all-in cost. The $350 number you mentioned seeing on the exchange is right in the usual range for glasses-only later generation (non-serialized) Plasma finish Juliets in generally good condition and with original lenses in comparable shape. That's a lot of variables to consider, it barely even makes a coherent sentence. The typical range for a Juliet along those lines is roughly $275-400 depending on where it's listed (always outliers, though). $300-350 is the sweet spot, that's what I would personally consider the current "real" current market value for them. This is just for the item though, with transaction costs the $460 amount isn't as far away as it might feel. I think you did OK considering it was your first foray into X Metals, still ended up with a really nice item!

It also came with a x metal case, which ive learned is somewhat valuable, so that softens the blow.

(I was just chatting with you on reddit about a racing jacket post)

As per your original post, I don’t think you “massively” over paid at all. You barely see any Juliets in that condition posted for less than $400 these days. The days of sub $400 pair of X-Metals are long gone.

You may still find ones below that, but usually needs a total re-finish or tune-up. That’s easily another $100+ for service & shipping 2 ways.

And as you said, it came with an X-Metal case. If it’s the soft vault, then you definitely paid fairly. If that is the metal vault, you actually underpaid.

Enjoy your 1st X-Metal and hopefully not your last.
