Stretchline lighting question

Finally got around to looking at the lighting in the stretchlines I picked up. Opened up the top and found this mess. Is this the way that they came from Oakley or was this modified?

That's exactly how they came.
The fluorescent tube lights up the small images around the top of the stretchline and the halogen (20W-ish) lights the case contents.
If they still work, great. If not rip all that crap out and I can help you to update it. I use an LED set in the top to light the upper part and an LED down.
