Time to change the New member requirements

I am for whatever restrictions need to be imposed to protect people from being taken advantage of.

It is sad to see folks miss the value of this forum. So much information about this brand at your fingertips from all over the world. People who worked or work for O', life long collectors etc.

I came here because I love Oakley, have since I was 16 and saw my first pair of Eye Jackets. I was hooked from then on. Bought my first pair with my first check from my first job. Kept them for near a decade until the wife sat on them.

One of the major things I love about this forum and would hate to see go away is the sheer knowledge of this community.

When I was deployed from 2001 to 2010 all over the globe I missed so many releases and frames I never knew existed because I was over seas, internet was still very young, online shopping options very young and limited.

Between this and O-Review I am able to go back through the O' historical catalog and find lost frame designs I would have bought, find them within the community if possible and research all the things I didnt know.

And in addition the vast talent of custom creators in here whether that's repairs, refreshes, lens cuts etc is just next level. Feel like a kid in a candy store.

Any way back to the topic, I think it would be great if the restrictions enforced a 30 day to 90 period before any new member could PM. Along with enforced Qualitative metrics of a post. Not a quantitative one as the primary marker. We want folks who come here to be serious about the hobby and brand then you have to enforce that level of interaction. If they just want to pump and dump then go join a FB group or Insta or whatever. But should be possible on here.

I would restrict the entire Exchange section from view until the new members hit the metrics needed to unlock them whatever that is. Let alone be able to even post in them. If they post their sales stuff outside of that boundary in the interim they get a warning 1st violation, then a suspension 2nd violation, then a permanent ban if a 3rd offense.

I might even toy with the idea of an annual fee for non-premium members to be able to even make posts in the exchange section you have to pay an annual fee to access it beyond a certain number of free listings say 5 to 10 a year free listings or threads, after that. $10 a year or you can become full premium. I am not currently a premium one, but I would have paid that fee when I started if necessary. This site isnt free after all to host.

** Retract my cost idea, I never researched the premium member cost. Silly me. I will be paying that next month then, been here long enough I suppose.
