What's On Your Plate???

Southern fried pork chops with sautéed yellow squash. Southern gravy on mine; The Wife likes her plain:

And, some big honkin' grilled ribeyes with sautéed baby portabella mushrooms:

Rare for me (as far as I'm concerned, there's no such thing as an underdone steak) and medium rare for The Wife. Marinated for about 30 mins in Lea & Perrins Worcestershire sauce (I call it "redneck soy sauce" haha) then coated with a West Texas-style rub.

These were done on the charcoal grill. I get a better sear and MUCH better grill marks from my gas grill, with its precise temperature control and cast iron cooking grates. But, I ran out of propane during the preheat, so over to the charcoal...

If you're not familiar with Chilean Sea Bass, it's one of the most delicious fish you can eat. Natural buttery taste, exquisite texture... But there's a (maybe) interesting story behind it...

Chilean Sea Bass isn't really a kind of Sea Bass, from Chile or anywhere. It's actually a quite ugly fish named the Patagonian Toothfish. Despite it being so yummy, nobody would buy it; who wants to eat something called a Patagonian Toothfish? So, the industry deceptively rebranded it as Chilean Sea Bass and the rest is history - now it commands top tier pricing and is being pressured by overfishing. Who says a little marketing doesn't work?
I got suckered in with the name game... "Nile Perch" is just tilapia. No wonder it is so cheap. and Real perch costs an arm and a leg.

I have a lot of catching up to do on this thread.... So here we go. My wife and daughter headed to FL right after school was out, here is some of what they sampled and what I missed out on.

Johnny Rockets in Orlando on I drive. Good for a greasy 50s style burger!

Stopped in at the Spaghetti Warehouse in Tampa and had the 15 layer lasagna. It was pretty disappointing, so much potential but it was really bland. Needed to be seasoned up.

Stopped in at the Orlando Brewery.... if you like IPA beer this just might be your place. Nice staff but I didnt find anything I really liked.

After we got done at the brewery we headed to a place around the corner caller Doc's Streetside Grill. This place was great! Excellent food, great staff, great food. Even won $25 at trivia.

Hit up another pizza place called I Love NY Pizza on 27 in Clermont. Great staff and food was good too! Awesome garlic knots!

I dont have any pics but we ate at a place called Sweet Tomatoes on 192 in Clermont twice. Honestly it was the cleanest, best run restaurant I have ever been in. If you like salad bars, soups, bakery stuff and desserts this place is fantastic.

On the way home Kim said for father's day I could pick where ever I wanted for dinner..... This is what I chose. Mushroom & Swiss burger for the win!

Now I had this for breakfast... Its called a slugburger. This one is a double with cheese. Comes with onions, pickles and mustard. You will only find them in a small area of NE Mississippi

And finally back home.... with taco salad.
We have a rule when on vacation, no Chinese or Mexican.
