Agreed, as much as I like the TBII, MM, HP, and FMJ...Oakley watches, to the watch community, are abominations.

I think that’s a very harsh word to use bro. With all due respect, Oakley ****ed up on the marketing side. Which is where they were normally pretty good with their products. They also overpriced and over assess their watches. They’re not meant to be high-end watches.Their daily activewear and bombastic appeal to a certain group of customers was the niche. They were obviously not trying to compete with the main competitors in the market, Oakley knows what they’re good at making which is glasses, apparel etc.
It's harsh, but the reality. Any watch forums that have had these watches posted...the reaction from the watch community is something along the lines of "What is that hideous thing...?". But again, that is what Oakley was going for. They wanted to be different. They wanted to stand out. People say the same thing about Richard Mille - it is an abomination of a watch. And, even on the high end scale, Richard Mille watches depreciate as well.
Again it’s a niche market. It appeals to activewear, truckers, toothless cowboys, Trump Fans
In all seriousness, they should of been more keen to their market of customers, and I feel they def did with their wild looks and WTH is this on your wrist.
Price and failure in the marketing. But again, there’s plenty of people that rather wear something that people give a second look then a traditional watch.
Just my take
Agreed, plenty of people that like the "gadget" vibe of watches and that's fine but it certainly isn't what makes watches go up in value. It's just extremely hard to make a watch if you are not the big three-four watch makers that will appreciate in value.
I’ve never been a watch guy until Oakley discontinued their watch line...
I’m the guy that doesn’t watch tv series/shows until they’ve ended ...then I binge watch them and for me get a greater appreciation that at some point there is an end...
My experience is most watch enthusiasts don’t pay any special attention to Oakley watches..in their mind Oakley is more of a fringe brand that tried to play in the big boy market and didn’t do well
I do love the descriptor “bombastic”. I will admit for myself I prioritize the aesthetic quality and style over internal movements ..
I recently read this article on my news feed.. found it pretty interesting then looked down at my timebomb 1 watch and realized I didn’t even reset the time (didn’t wear it for a couple months )
Men around the world are wearing broken watches — but an expert says there's more than one reason why
Honestly people pay a ton of money for art work. Such as our friend @Nucchem sells his pottery. To most it doesn’t appeal, but to die hard collectors- people will pay in the tens of thousands.
Oakley is art at its darkest as well as its finest.
