Introduced in September of 2018, the Oakley Diecutter sunglasses build on the already popular Latch frame. With it’s signature round lenses, the Diecutter offers a modern look for sunglasses and eyeglasses. Keep reading for our complete Oakley Diecutter review including how it improves on the latch.
Oakley Diecutter Sunglasses Review
Frame and Design
The first thing you’ll notice about the Diecutter is the round lenses and full frame. This pair definitely is a lifestyle design with an urban and contemporary feel. The stainless steel frame is thin and light weight, but durable and strong. That means it won’t corrode and is actually advertised as hypoallergenic.
The Diecutter frame features silicone nosepads like you’d find on most Oakley eyeglasses, and Unobtainium earsocks. Overall it seems like Oakley blended eyeglasses and sunglasses with this frame.
The most interesting feature of this frame is the “Latch” system. First introduced in 2015, the Latch system features a special clip inside the hinge that allows you to clip or “latch” the glasses to your shirt or pocket. This is meant to prevent your glasses from falling off your shirt when you lean over or move. Overall from our experience the feature worked well but seemed a bit gimmicky than useful. Maybe it’s because we don’t often put our sunglasses on our shirts but we didn’t see the value here. Is it a nice feature? Sure. Is it a feature alone that would make us buy the pair? No.
Lenses
The Oakley Diecutter lenses, being a recent style, naturally has the newest technology available. Made of the Oakley Plutonite material, the lenses meet ANSI standards for impact resistance and clarity.
Additionally Oakley Diecutter Prizm lenses are available in every pair. We’ve already covered how we’re big fans of Oakley’s contrast enhancing Prizm lenses, but we’re especially happy to seem in lifestyle pairs like these. While Prizm technology was originally built for sport specific applications, Oakley is releasing more and more everyday lenses like Prizm Ruby and Prizm Everyday. After using them we can definitely say this is the future of lenses.
Dimensions and Size
The Diecutter is unique in that it’s available in two eyeglasses sizes. The sunglasses model of the frame however is still one size fits all. We’ve included the Diecutter measurements of each size below for reference:

Are Oakley Diecutter Prescription lenses available?
Yes, as Oakley also sells Diecutter eyeglasses, you can get prescription lenses in the frame. Through your local ophtamologist or Oakley’s prescription program you can typically get single vision or progressive Diecutter prescription lenses made. Be sure to check out our complete guide to Oakley presctiption lenses here.
Are Diecutter replacement lenses available?
Yes, while Oakley doesn’t currently offer Diecutter replacement lenses, you can find plenty from aftermarket retailers online. For a complete comparison of options, check out our complete guide to buying aftermarket replacement lenses here.
Where can you buy Diecutter sunglasses?
Currently the Diecutter sunglasses appear on Oakley’s website (Product Link), however they are not available for purchase. While we have seen this happen for very popular frames, it’s more likely that the Diecutter is being discontinued.
But if your still looking to purchase a pair of Diecutter eyeglasses or sunglasses you’re not out of luck. Several online retailers including Amazon still have the frame available for sale. However we’d expect that to change as they sell out of their current inventory.
