Oakley Savitar Sunglasses | Review & Guide

One of the newest Oakley wire frames, Oakley Savitar sunglasses bring a modern style in a sleek design. But how do they perform day-to-day?

Let’s find out as we review the Oakley Savitar and everything to know about these sunglasses!

Name and Release

The Oakley Savitar first appeared online in late December 2020, when images of the frame leaked online. Finally, in March 2021, the Savitar debuted on Oakley’s website.

The name Savitar appears to be inspired by the fictional supervillain from DC Comics that first appeared in a flash of the same name. We’re guessing someone over at Oakley Headquarters is a Flash comics fan and wanted to have fun with this one.

Keep reading for our full Oakley Savitar review and what we thought of these sunglasses.

Oakley Savitar Sunglasses Review

Our Gear

For our review, we tried a pair of Oakley Savitar sunglasses in Satin Black with Prizm Black lenses (Product Link). And while we loved this frame, it still couldn’t take the top sport from our favorite wire frames.

Find out why in our full review below.

Frame & Initial Impressions

The first thing you notice about the Savitar sunglasses is the aggressive angular lines. Especially for a wire frame, this bold design stands out amongst the crowd.

But the lines are still subtle enough that this frame will look good on just about anyone.

And with a frame made of lightweight titanium, like most other Oakley metal frames, this frame is comfortable. Plus, you don’t need to sacrifice durability with this wire frame. We dropped our Savitar sunglasses a few times throughout the week and had no issues whatsoever.

Overall, the light weight combined with the Unobtainium earsocks for grip and silicone nosepads made us forget at times that we were even wearing the Savitar.

Prizm Lenses

The unique shape of the Oakley Savitar lenses isn’t the only element getting us excited about this pair.

The Savitar is available with Prizm lenses in every colorway. Oakley really seems to be rolling out their Prizm technology to every frame (we’re not complaining) this year.

Our pair included Prizm Black lenses, which we’ve already reviewed, but overall we loved them. Especially in a wire frame like the Savitar, the subdued color of Prizm Black meant we could wear these anywhere.

But if you prefer to make more of a statement, Oakley also offers the Savitar in various colorways like Prizm Rose Gold, Prizm Tungsten, and more.

See below for our complete list of the available colorways.

Size and Dimensions

Oakley Savitar glasses are a medium-size frame that looks great on any face shape. We’ve included the full dimensions below for reference:

  • Lens Height: 37.8 mm
  • Lens Width: 58 mm
  • Bridge Width: 16 mm
  • Frame Width: 132 mm
  • Temple Length: 138 mm

Final Thoughts – Are They Worth It?

While the hexagon-like lens shape of the Oakley Savitar is a fun aggressive for the wire family, we still prefer the Whisker over this pair for two main reasons.

First, the Whisker has a larger lens wrap and curvature, meaning the frame seems to hug your face more than the Savitar. While this will come down to personal preference, we felt that the Whisker fit better than the Savitar.

Second, while we love the Savitar’s aggressive design, we still prefer the Whisker’s classic styling. In our opinion, Wire frames are meant to be understated. And while we love Oakley’s innovation in pairs like the Kato and Over The Top (that quickly turn heads), we still prefer classic wire designs that can be worn to a wedding or BBQ.

Overall, we’d recommend the Savitar if you want an aggressive modern wire frame. Otherwise, we’d recommend you look at the Oakley Whisker sunglasses for a more classic design.

Anybody heard any more about these or the new wire tap 2.0? Would like to see colorways for either model and sizing too.

These Savitars almost look like a frankensteined cross of whiskers and ejectors.

More uninspired Lux phooey.
Agreed. These aren’t my favorite, but it looks like the Savitar will be a titanium frame so might check it out just to check it out. I hope this one looks better in photos compared to stock pics (similar to the Ejector).

Titanium makes it allot more interesting, and 8.75 base curve.

Looks like these are available at Sunglass Hut:

Based on the 8.75 base curve and the actual lens size I am thinking these are going to be relatively small on anybody with a larger head. Probably not for me :(.
