Half X sticky earsocks?

I have a pair of Plasma/Tungsten Half-X in mint condition, but the rootbeer earsocks and nosebombs are sticky. I’ve been collecting Oakley’s for quite some time and I found out that the Rootbeer rubbers are more prone to be sticky.

I tried alcohol, mild soap and boiling water, but they all won’t work. It feels not sticky at first, but after drying, they become sticky again, maybe even more sticky than before.

Does anyone have advice of other methods to make them not sticky? Thanks!

Bin them? If those methods haven't worked, the O-Matter is kaput.

Agreed. it has likely met its degradation point and just needs to be tossed. I have some that have been boiled/washed/degreased and like you described comeout- OK/Passable and gets slimy after a few days of storage/use.

Sad. But anyway I won’t be wearing the half x they are just for display. So the earsocks aren’t affecting much.

Yes, sadly there are parts that are just "consumable" like lenses and rubbers.

Ill leave this up to you but....you can close the cells of the rubber by putting g them in boiling water for a few seconds.

I have done this multiple times. Get the water to a boil, drop the parts in and let them roll around for 5-10 seconds. Dont let them touch the sides or bottom, pull them out with a spoon and put them under cold water directly.

If they aren't completly junk, that can buy you some time with them. They lose a bit of tack, but they stay together.
