Nothing has ever gotten lost in the mail

Heh…riiiiiiight.

The easiest (and safest) way is photogrammetry…but it’s not an exact thing. It’s takes a fine had to get the pics right…and even when you do everything right it sometimes flops. I’ve burnt a lot of hours and camera batteries only to have zero come of it. Lighting has to be perfect…no glare…even lighting all around. Such things. Soooo…that having been said it takes a minimum of 50 photos at all angles 360 degrees and at different heights.

Then a lot of cleanup and post processing…it’s why I switched to leather 😏.

Oh…mostly I use veg-tanned cow hide. It’s cheap and the most forgiving…and really the only thing one can use for stamping. I just ordered half a cow hide for 100.00. Lots of fodder for projects.

Done a few things in these exotics for myself and family…Croc, Icelandic Wolf Fish, Ostrich, and Bison. Pocket organizers, phone pouches, watch bands…such things.

I’m relatively new to this hobby. A year or so. I started because I always wear operator caps and had my own personal logo previously done in embroidery on em. They were getting long in the tooth and I wanted to try and redo em in leather like in WWII Bomber Jacket art…and a new hobby is born 🪖👍

OK fair warning all you purists. The Stunt Double is on deck tonight. I’m trying a more abrasive hide and I ain’t hazarding “My Precious” 😉

What I’m learning on Crater wrapping so far is the thinner the better…and I mean “thin.” I was going to try some stingray hide earlier today and switched from a larger hide to one a fraction of the size as I could tell the larger would be too darn thick. Also it’s a bit abrasive so trying it on the Stunt Double Craters first as noted. I could care less if its finish gets scuffed.

Stingray hide in place and drying a bit…then. The needles come out.

🪖👍

As they say, “Once is happenstance. Twice is coincidence. Three times is enemy action.”

I guess we are officially at coincidence 😏. Two done successfully…at least in my books. It has a “Creature From the Black Lagoon ‘meets’ Frankenstein” vibe going…but I’m digging it.

I need more colors of waxed leather thread and MANY more thin exotic leather options 🪖👍
