I just find it odd that this would be a pre-production sample after they serialized 1210 before this one.

Haven't we seen watches like these where the red 'wore' off over time and turned white?

Yes, with enough proper sun exposure all the TB2 red lettering will turn white. The links below are a few examples among many where the lettering is turning pure white. It is a function of red being the color that fades the fastest in the sun and also the type of paint they used for the lettering.

My tb2 has white automatic letters too! Maybe it is a sample. The serial is close to what the OP posted at 1219.
