Oakley Hijinx Sunglasses – The Ultimate Guide

We review everything to know about the Oakley Hijinx Sunglasses including where you can still find them!

History and Background

The Oakley Hijinx sunglasses were introduced in 2007. During the mid-2000s cat-eyes were making another comeback, frames were getting bigger, and rectangular frames were very much in style.

The Hijinx took advantage of this popularity and Oakley created a pared-down style suitable for either sports or leisure. Sadly around 2011 Oakley discontinued the Hijinx alongside the Monster Dog sunglasses.

Frame, Size and Design

Oakley Hijinx sunglasses feature a lightweight full-rimmed design made of the company’s proprietary O Matter frame material.

The Hijinx frame is simple and functional. And it’s a great frame for wearers looking for an all-around pair of sunglasses that can be worn out and still withstand activity. The overall design is similar to other Oakley lifestyle pairs like the Fuel Cell and Gascans.

The Hijinx sunglasses also feature Oakley’s 3 point fit. Meaning the frame touches your face at the bridge of your nose and the sides of your head, providing a firm but gentle grip. Unlike other Oakley’s you won’t find Unobtainium nosepads or earsocks on the Hijinx.

Additionally, the frame features customizable icons similar to the Batwolf and other pairs meaning you could swap the Oakley O logo to match your style. We’ve also seen this now become a part of the Oakley Custom Program where you can change just about every aspect of your sunglasses!

The Hijinx was designed for a medium face, but like the Monster Dog, they tend to be popular with those looking for frames and lenses for larger faces. We’ve included the dimensions of the Hijinx below for reference.

Hijinx Dimensions

  • Bridge length: 16mm
  • Lens height: 40mm
  • Lens width: 65mm
  • Temple length: 130mm

Lenses

The Oakley Hijinx lenses feature Plutonite lenses that meet ANSI Z87.1 standards (note this doesn’t mean they are safety glasses), alongside XYZ optics. Hijinx lenses were originally available in standard, Iridium, and Polarized options. You could also find prescription lens options available for the Hijinx. Like all of Oakley’s lenses, they offer complete UV protection including UVA, UVB, and UVC.

Overall the awesome artist series frame designs are matched by fantastic lens colors on the Hijinx. From Deep Blue Polarized to VR28 Black Iridium Polarized, there are some awesome options across the Hijinx lenses.

Since the style has now been discontinued if you’re looking for Hijinx replacement lenses you’ll need to check out aftermarket retailers. Head over to our complete guide on Oakley replacement lenses and the best aftermarket manufacturers here.

Original Colorways

The Hijinx Sunglasses were available in a variety of standard colors. But the Special and Limited editions really took the Hijinx to the next level.

Through Oakley’s long-standing partnership with Italian motorcycle company Ducati, the red and black-framed Ducati Hijinx Special Edition was born.

The Hijinx was also featured as a part of Oakley’s Artist Series with Who Is This Kid Artist series alongside various special editions like the Art Chantry series, Frank Koziks, and more. Where to Buy Hijinx Sunglasses

Since the Hijinx is a discontinued frame, if you’re looking for a pair for sale you’ll need to check out aftermarket sites. The best options are typically our Oakley Forum Exchange areas here, where you can buy and sell directly with other Oakley fans and collectors. Additionally, you can check out sites like eBay but be sure to do homework as there are plenty of fake lifestyle frames out there. Final Thoughts

Oakley Hijinx sunglasses are a nice, basic design that fits well alongside the Fuel Cells and other lifestyle frames. But where our true love for the Hijinx comes from is the amazing artist series pairs. Taking a simple lifestyle frame and transforming them into awesome special editions is the epitome of Oakley.

We’d love to see Oakley bring back the Hijinx but more importantly we’d love to see them bring back the Artist Series!
