Oakley photochromic = Transitions GEN 8?

It sounds less like optical correction and more that you finally got some good AR coating applied. Glare and starbursts while driving really is not a thing if you got good AR coatings which any good brand with decent quality lenses will provide,

If you have astigmatism you actually need a prescription as no amount of good AR coating or cleaning your windshield is going to 'correct' that, as people with that would see all that with the naked eye at nearly every light source.

I know. I have astigmatism as well. If after getting having the proper prescription made and you are still getting glare while driving, it is mostly likely the AR. I have experienced it. Never cheap out on the coatings.

I also have astigmatism. Would this explain why I have a hard time wearing prizm deep water polarized because I keep noticing ‘ghosting’ behind that specific lens?

That lens just has a bit of back glare depending on the frame design, such as more side coverage, less of it happening. So I get a lot of that glare if I use Clifdens without blockers, or the Holbrook, versus the Flak 2.0 XL with more side coverage especially if the light is all around.

With Astigmatism you're gonna get that with nearly any lens if the lens are not prescription fitted for you. And while anti reflective coating on the back may help back glare, it's not going to do anything for the effect of astigmatism, because light reaching your retinas still gets split up to multiple focal points.

Thanks that makes sense. that also might explain why I generally like more wrapped sunglasses with less iridium coatings. hmm, learn something new every day!

I don't have astigmatism, but do get the glare depending on lens. Tungsten for example in my Holbrook XL has more noticeable back reflection than say my shallow water or trail. But shallow water in Clifdens, left intact with the blocks on the side, the back reflection is pretty much non-existent especially on brighter days (where the area behind the lens is going to be considerably darker than the area outside). Things seem super super clear wearing a Clifden... it just looks weird on your face...

I like my Flak 2.0 XL for when I'm walking/hiking/etc (not in a car where my side/rear are usually already darker), Holbrook XL for everything else.

I don't know the specifics, but heard that AR coating can be a double edge sword. Over time making the lens not as crisp due to wear (and eventually having some separation).

I already know the reply to my post after this is posted 🤣. POST THEM PICS

First off I get my astigmatism tested yearly, diff test than a normal eye exam. Also there are 3 types of astigmatism one can suffer from. My Myopic astigmatism is backed up back by Corneal issues as well. I know my Cornea shape down to the money due to something called Cornea topography, wavefront and manifest refraction tests. My Rx is diff from anything the normal person has seen except an eye specialist.

Oakley has an optical division that is doing things above and beyond what others are trying to do in the area of astigmatism. I can say this because the first time I decided to buy some Oakley Rx I have have not looked back and that was 6 months ago.

I don’t just buy Oakleys for the look and the cool factor….I’m telling lies🤣 Oakley makes the baddest sunglasses on the market. I can see 20/20 now…well a little better but again I was told Oakley isn’t that advance so I digress.

If you have astigmatism go get it tested properly so you will have a real understanding about it than just going to a local eye doctor and getting the normal tests and guessing at your astigmatism.

PEACE

Apparently ‘No other company but Oakley can do it’.

but I do congratulate you on correcting you astigmatism. As prevalent as it is, astigmatism does suck. glad you found you found a brand you like. One day you may branch out into the rest of the industry and really see what it’s capable of. Good luck!

I’m getting some Rudy’s due to your stance on them. thanks for introducing me to them I never heard of them before.

Their ImpactX lenses, which is Trivex based, is a great lens.

I would also recommend looking into Zeiss prescription lenses and what they can do for you. There is a reason they have the reputation of being one of the best in the optical industry. Probably the best I have experienced. Hoya’s good as well.
