New xmetal. It true. It very interesting looking. Looks round!!! Shape..

Saw pictures, a pair with black polarize lens. It two round shape lens. Google madman rx glasses.

Least we all saving money not buying a bunch of these. I might get one pair for kicks.

Madman's have been mentioned earlier in the thread as 1 of the 2 pending 'Metals', the Badman likely being the other. There are specific PNs to Google for specific images.

That said, I refuse to refer to these as "X-Metals". They may fill a similar spot on a shelf or place in a catalog, but they will not be X-Metals unless they are made of the same, designed as, and intended to be - and none of those things seem to be true at this time.

Just because its not O-Matter, plastic, or carbon does not mean its X-Metal.

I think people are calling it new xmetal. But it coming out soon. Pictures I've seen look crazy. I like them. But they are very crazy looking.

O-Matter from its original incarnation to today is not the same stuff, but it's still called O-Matter. I have no problem with them coming out with a revamped X-Metal, whether it be a new blend with magnesium as the primary component, or a tweaked blend with titanium remaining the top of the heap.

Material technology has advanced so much further than what it was in the early 90's. To stay with the same blend for the sake of nostalgia with a few collectors is a mistake. Bring on bigger and better things.

That is exactly why there will never be any more X-Metals! :)

/me: wishes everyone would realize this and stop calling them X-Metals!!

As for the next 'metal', magnesium is a very good guess. This would allow for a lower cost of materials and manufacturing - and we all know that cost is Lux priority #1. Mg itself is also a good dampener which makes it good for wearable and rideable components, such as bike components, which is my primary experience with Mg. I am not sure if the latter would really be a positive once the alloy is created, but it could be. Mg would likely yield a frame that is significantly lighter than Ti, another bonus. This would be at the expense of the strength of the frame. Magnesium also corrodes relatively easy in alloys, especially in Aluminum-heavy alloys. This would bring into question the durability of a Mg alloy held together by Ti hinges and/or inserts.

At the end of this road there begins another. As long as they don't call them X-Metals I'm all for progress. If they insist on calling them X-Metals that will be extremely disappointing to me as an individual/collector. I feel that would be an insult, not an an homage, to the X-Metals. That said I have heard nothing indicating they are going to be called X-Metals, only "the closest thing to X-Metals since..." and "the replacement for X-Metals" - so there is still 'hope'.

Products like this http://www.bravocompanymfg.com/kmr/ give me a good deal of excitement for the new iteration of X-Metal type glasses.

People have been throwing around info about magnesium, but there is a proof-positive product that a mag-alloy could be a wonderful thing.-- (Generally speaking from a quick Google lookup) Titanium is 0.16 pounds/cubic inch. Aluminum is .098 pounds/cubic inch. They've made a magnesium/aluminum alloy that can stand up to the abuse of battlefield environments at roughly 0.064 pounds/cubic inch. And coat it with a process that is stronger than hard coat anodize or hard chrome. Now, granted, their goal is rigidity and that's not what sunglasses need so much. But a big ol' chunky gun part made from that stuff costs less than a Juliet, and there's a ton of R&D, proprietary tech, first to the market, lightest on the market type of stuff propping the price up a bit.

So no, I don't think a magnesium blend is going to be anything short of amazing. If they want to make a new blend that's lighter and stronger than X-Metal and still call it X-Metal... I won't be upset.

Technology + Mg = amazing things, I don't disagree... I have no issue with Mg or any other metal for that matter, but I think having any hope that Lux will commit to the level of effort and establish the processes to manufacture products using Mg-based alloys at anything close to a military or firearm grade is wasted hope - wishful thinking at best. The probable scenario yields something lighter and almost as strong - at least for practical consumer purposes, but not quite as durable as the X-Metal we know today.

And as long as they call it anything but X-Metal (Y-Metal, M-Metal, NeXt-Metal?) I won't be upset. ;)
